READ the thread, there's more than one poster posting in this thread (epliny AND arleigh).

FWIW as a side note:
We've all been saying to do backups generally for nearly 40 years. You'd think it would have sunk in by now. But do you really think many actually listen?

My suggestion to those who are planning on upgrading their operating system, before starting the process:

- Make sure your system is free off malicious software (this is extremely important)
- Cleanup temp/junk files by running a trusted app
- If a HD encryption software was installed, make sure to decrypt the encrypted partitions/drives
- If above steps are completed, schedule/run scandisk first, and then defrag on all drive(s) connected (never run defrag on any encrypted partitions/drives!)

THEN (if applicable):
- Uninstall a real-time AV/Malware scanner if installed

Additionally, much like doing a system restore or re-imaging, disconnect any and all external devices, removable media, etc. that is not needed.

So, if you have any USB/flash drives connected or CD/DVD in the drive, remove them to minimize the chance of having any issues.

That is what I would recommend...
