I can answer a few questions for the last post though... it's 4.4 cannot see 4.3's files, and yes 4.3 is the problem. I will try everything you all told me, we'll see if any of it works!! (hopefully i can get to this forum through the computer system at school, they block the STUPIDEST things!!) thank you all so much for your help, you have no idea how much you've helped, i hope to god something works!!! i'll let you know after tomorrow!!! thanks again!

The key is the double backslash - that tells Windows that you're looking for another computer via their sharing protocol.

Of course, you should also make sure that the firewall that's built-into Windows XP is disabled or has exceptions for file sharing, but you've already done that, right?

that's the only way that we try to file share and that's where we're getting the error message. And we have disabled all of our firewalls to get through, so that's not the problem.

I have seen problems with similar symptoms solved by turning off the Windows Firewall. Remember to change the security settings to ignore the Firewall or your PC will nag you frequently.
