Hey, guys/gals,

Im moving to Bridgeport for work very soon (in 2 weeks....) and it's kind of rush for me to find a place to rent. I heard Bridgeport itself is definitely not a good place to live , so Im wondering is there any good apartment/place to rent near Bridgeport? -- better in the south part of Bridgeport since im going to NYC a lot.

Im looking for some apt within $1400/month (sure, less costing, better!)

Any suggestion would be great! Thanks!

PS: just searched online, and find this place:
Milford Beach Apartments
71B Joy Road Milford, CT 06460.

Anybody has any idea about this apartment?

There are many nice neighborhoods in Bridgeport. It is a large city and only a few areas are bad. First to consider is downtown. It is up and coming and has a number of new apartments in some of the beautiful old commercial buildings there. It also where Bridgeport's train station is located so it would be easy to get to New York.

Another nice area is Black Rock. This is a nice urban village with all types of housing from apartments in multi-famaily residences to mansions overlooking Long Island sound. There are also some nice restaurants and interesting shops there. Generally I would look for a place west of Ellsworth Street though.

Also nice is the North End. I would look at apartments mostly north of North Avenue (Route 1) and west of Main Street. This is generally a very safe quiet area. Main Street has a lot of great shopping and some good restaurants.

As for Milford, it is a nice town but I do not know anything about the apartments you listed. Good luck, Jay

Hey, Jay,

Thanks a lot for your kind reply!

Actually i have only been to CT for one time (for the onsite interview....), and I really have no clue about those locations/areas you mentioned..... but I will google it for sure.

Im wondering whether you know any specific apartment that is good to live near Bridgeport?

Actually I wont have too much time doing the research since I need to move in before the end of next weekend.....haha

I don't know about the specific place, Vince, but I drove around Milford on Wednesday and REALLY liked the community. The housing prices (not something that you're looking into right now...but...) are very reasonable compared to those in Fairfield. The town square in Milford is VERY quaint and pretty much sold us. I'll be commuting to Greenwich and the proximity to the train station for home and job was a plus. Good luck. We'll be moving in mid-to-late October, too!

I can tell you of some apartment complexes to avoid (for your safety):

Trumbull Gardens
P.T. Barnum
Greenes
Marina Village

Don't worry about writing those complexes down. They don't do walk-up leasing.

Your primary targeted neighborhoods should be Black Rock, Brooklawn, or the North End. They're all pretty nice. Black Rock is closest to a train station.

I've lived in Bridgeport for close to 12 years now and someone above posted some places to stay away from. Examples

Trumbull Gardens
P.T. Barnum
Greenes
Marina Village

Those places are low income housing with a lot of crime and drugs. If you have any kids Bridgeport school system is horrible. I sister had to move to another apartment because of how bad the school systems.

If I was looking for another apartment in BPT I would suggest looking in the North End. North is a good area and they have a school for good kids called i believe Magnet school. It might be a high school I'm not 100%..

Hope this helps.

Thank you guys so much. Actually Im still single. No kids, No family. So school wont be a problem for me. I just really care about the safety. I actually search on rent.com and it seems like I could get very few apartment information in Black Rock, Brooklawn, or the North End...

i will try other website for it.

You guys are so helpful and nice!!
