OK, now that all of you have convinced me that this general area of CT fits my relocation criteria...can you help me with tips on job searching?

What are some of the major employers in the Middletown area and further south? What are the names of some major news publications that would list job openings? I don't know if I would want to commute to Hartford, but if the drive isn't too long, I would consider it. I am used to commuting 45 minutes one way. I'm an exec. admin. assistant and my husband is in management (supermarket and restaurants) and was also a chef. I could work in any industry, have been in insurance, banking, retail, management etc.

The biggest problem is that I don't think we are going to find jobs until we live there; and with having children we don't want to move without having jobs lined up first. This has been an obstacle for us...

I know that people relocate nationally a lot but I have never done it. Without relocating within a current employer...I just don't know how to get the job several states away. What do we do to get the interview once we find jobs we want to apply for?

Considering your work experience- and your husbands in retail Mgt. at the Supermarket level finding employment should not prove to be too difficult an undertaking.

Firstly a local site that can be helpful for a start is; these sites have helped me.

Employer Recruitments
Connecticut Jobs - Careerbuilder.com and The Hartford Courant
Connecticut Jobs - Search Jobs and Employment Listings across the state of Connecticut
Connecticut Jobs | Connecticut Careers | Connecticut Employment
Connecticut Jobs and Connecticut employment opportunities at Connecticut Job.Com
You Belong in CT - Jobs
Connecticut Jobs - WorkConnecticut.com

with your background; Law offices, Insurance, to start.

Others here hopefully can add more information. As I.

Thank you sky! I have already looked at those sites. Do you know of any major employers? Sometimes it's best to apply directly through their website.

I myself do not know of major employers.

First of all Dry the major law firms in Hartford-like Dayberry and Howard.
Also in Middletown try Wesleyan University. In New Haven try Yale University-
as for Yale- work as a temp first- they do hire- and make many temps permanent.

Travelers St. Paul Hartford
Aetna Life and Casualty Hartford
Hartford Steam Boiler Hartford

Hartford - New England's Rising Star - Work: Careers (http://hartford.com/work/careers.php - broken link)

New Haven

Yale New Haven Hospital
Yale School of Public health
New Haven Employment Law -- Employer Lawyer, Attorney, Lawyers, Attorneys, Law Firm, Law Firms - Connecticut - CT - FindLaw

Some thoughts:

Pratt & Whitney has facilities in Middletown and East HArtford.

Stop & Shop and Shaws are the major supermarkets, also Big Y.

Liberty Bank and Middlesex Insurance are in Middletown.

Major banks include Bank of America and Peoples Bank

Anthem Blue Cross in North Haven

Healthpoint Insurance in North Haven

Also consider CVS- they are everywhere here- and managers are what they need-

The Hartford area has two very large malls- and 1 smaller one.
There is the retail megaplex in Manchester, and the upscale 'Evergreen Walk' in South Windsor which is expanding.

Feel free to ask more!

I'm an Executive Administrative Assistant...my husband is in Management (over 120 employees). 'Ideally' his job would make enough so I wouldn't have to work ft, but at this time we are both looking for ft.
