CLinton
My husband and I have been looking at a house in Clinton. He will be working in North Haven. Our real estate agent keeps insisting thta CLinton is "up and coming". We don't know what she means . It seems nice to us. How are the schools? We have one first grade child with some special needs, adn a shild entering middle school. Our agent says we should look in Branford and North Branford, not the other areas. We really like Clinton as well as Wallingford, Southington, etc. (Clinton was our favorite). Any help would be appreciated. Our heads are spinning. Thanks!

I feel Clinton is your best choice- nothing against the other towns of course.
Have you seen the town of Clinton's home site?
Clinton Connecticut-Official Home Page
It is a fine town to live.

Thank you so much for answering, Skytrekker. We couldn't understand why our realtor only wanted us to look at Branford, but I think we will stick with Clinton. At least we've finally narrowed down an area. Thanks again for the help. It is so great for you to take the time to answer the postings.

Have you looked at Guilford/Madison? Madison is a very similar feel to Clinton. Guilford and Branford are loosely similar as well, all the while fantastic towns and much closer to North Haven. North Branford is nice but lacks most of the shoreline vibe of the shoreline towns. The *best* public schools are in Guilford and Madison, but the other towns come close.

Clinton is located next to Madison which is one of the areas pricest and most desireable suburbs. Your agent is probably directing you there because they feel that some of the Madison "feel" will be spilling over into Clinton. That may be true. I will agree with celcius that you should consider Guilford (Madison may be too expensive). It is a great town with a lot of charming feature, excellent schools, parks, shopping and restaurants. Plus it is more convenient to North Haven for your husband's job. Good luck and welcome to Connecticut. Jay

I don't think "the feel" of Madison spills over into Clinton.
Clinton is MUCH less superficial and much more diversified. And this has nothing to do with the fact that we own a home in Clinton. I have lived in the Middlesex area my entire 36 years , just my 2 cents.

Maybe "feel" wasn't the right word. I should have said that the agent is directing them to Clinton because it is a nice town and offers a more affordable option to pricey Madison. Because of this, Clinton is seeing more and more upscale homes being built for people seeking nicer homes at a more affordable price. PS - I know many very nice "down to earth" people who live in Madison. Jay

by 'up-and-coming' your realtor means that it will be a very desirable place for many to buy homes now and in the future. This is because the price of homes in areas like Guilford and Madison are veryy expensive. at least $400+ .. Clinton on the other hand has a similar atmosphere and scenery w/o the high cost of living. Guilford/Madison do have some of the nations best school systems however, so im not sure how Clinton will compare.
Over all I would say Clinton is a very good choice.

This one caught my eye, I've lived in both towns.
Personally, I feel Madison is a 'high-mantainance' town, where Clinton is more
of 'down to earth' town. Marina, golf course, beach's, rail access, shopping,
all without the high cost of housing or the feeling of having to have a BMW
in your driveway. = ) Oh, plentyfull 'take-out' options as well!
