I am a senior graduating from business school at UConn in May and have just accepted a finance job in downtown Stamford starting in June... I am wondering if anybody has advice on what is a good place to live for a young single guy such as myself, I will not have a car right away and want to stay away from a really long commute if possible. I will be working hard during the week, but like to go out, posisbly into the city on weekends, etc. Is Stamford a good place for young single people to live, or what about Westchester, NYC, etc? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, as I am single I am open to apartment sharing or room rental, etc. so quite flexible here. Also any advice on what are any bad/dangerous areas to avoid, I consider myself to be pretty street-smart but don't want to be living anywhere really dangerous. Thanks again...

Downtown along Bedford, Summer and Atlantic streets are all great areas. There's a huge presence of young folks < 35. I'd suggest you post a craigslist ad if you need a roommate, just be careful about who responds.

Default thanks

thank you kidyankee, good to know that Stamford is promising for my demographic- this way I can avoid a long commute and still be a short train ride into NYC for weekends

I also work in the financial industry in Stamford. There are plenty of activities available for the younger crowds and the city is always a short train ride. I would steer clear from looking for apartments on the east side of I95.

Agreed, although there are some pretty nice complexes popping up in the Southfield area.

thank you davwve, just to clarify, what areas/neighborhoods are you referring to when you say the East side of 95? Is this the Cove/Shippan neighborhood or E. Main Street area? thanks again...

Yup, they will build a luxury condo unit anywhere these days. Like the Avalon complex they just built in Norwalk in the parking lot of Autozone/McDonalds right next to the train tracks.

Some of my softball games last season were played at the park in the Cove/Shippan area. Can't say I would want to rent there. But, I've also rented on North. Taylor in Norwalk which many people don't look at favorably.

The Cove area isn't really bad. It's not an area with lots of luxury living, but there are some decent rentals in the area for <$1500 and it's not dangerous over there.
