Well, if you're talking Stamford vs. Hartford metro areas for teachers, Stamford area would have an edge on salary since the suburbs in that area are extremely affluent.

As far as job availability, I'm not sure there's much of a difference. I'm not a teacher though. My sister has been having a hell of a time finding a teaching job in the Hartford area, but she's an art teacher - and that's extremely difficult anywhere right now.

Cost of living in Stamford is MUCH higher.

Both are very affluent areas, but Stamford is prohibitively expensive. Get ready to spend big bucks on a home if you plan on buying.

West Hartford will likely offer you a better quality of life, a slower pace of living, and nicer people. Check it out.

Stamford all the way.

Stamford area is MUCH more affluent and MUCH more job-rich.

And Stamford is close to NYC, while West Hartford is close to Hartford.

I agree on that part, but it's not like jobs grow on trees in Stamford. With increase opportunities come increased competition. The salaries are a bit higher, though.

Well, I shouldn't have said nicer people - I should've said people who are more laid back. As mkiv said, there is a LOT of competition in the Stamford area and with competition comes a lot of type A personalities. It's not a bad thing, as I think CT has a lot of type As in general, but it can get tiresome.

When I left FFC, it was like breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Yeah, but you don't have to live in Stamford to work in Stamford, most of the towns surrounding Stamford (including the ones just over the line in NY) are top notch for schools!
