Ct will take a hit, but facing facts, this day was going to come. Its not a hard field to enter, easy money for any state. The real question is will any governor reduce spending commensurate with the loss of revenue from the 2 Ct Indian casinos? How many thousand will lose their jobs, and what will the supplier multiplier effect be?

Are there any entertainment areas of the casinos that are smoke-free? We went to the Pequot museum a few years ago, and tried to go to the casinos for dinner, some entertainment. We got no farther than a few steps into the place - the wall of smoke was incredibly dense. Turned around and left, never went back.

It's a casino, not a chuck-e-cheese. But yes, it is now predominantly smoke free.

And even in the "early days" both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun had a "smoke free floor" (i.e. one of the floors had smoke-free gambling).

People are crazy for caring about smoke in a casino. Fear much parentologist?

The MA casino is barely going to dent the CT casinos' revenue unless it's really high end and has a stadium that will attract nationally touring artists.

Fear? Nah, it's just disgusting. I've been to the casino's a total of once since they opened. Not for me. Not just due to the smoke, it's just not my scene. I'm a fiscal conservative and business math guy who can't see the entertainment in going against the odds. I'd rather risk my money somewhere else.

As for the MA casino's...are you aware how much of our casino's revenue comes from Mass? A LOT. It will hurt and in fact our casino's have stated they are already moving to diversify their attraction from just gambling to help stave off the loss.
The eastern Connecticut resorts may lose as much as 20 percent of their revenue as rivals open nearer to Boston in the next three to five years, according to Clyde Barrow, director of the Center for Policy Analysis at the University of Massachusetts.

“In Massachusetts we knew something like $1 billion a year was crossing the border, which is about 6,000 jobs,” Barrow said today by telephone, referring to gamblers traveling to Connecticut. “It was getting increasingly difficult for state leaders to watch that outflow.”

They are not building "boat" casinos.

Right, that's why I play poker. Also, there is a such thing as "fun" for fun's sake. There's no chance of me winning any money at a Bar, Restaurant, Movies or Amusement Park either.

Yup, I just play poker as well, not the house-edge games. Although I found a local game that runs regularly and it's only a 10 minute drive vs. a 75-minute one, so been sticking with that lately.

Yea I guess, but to me you are exchanging cash for something of value in those cases. (I don't go to movies either...just purchase DVD's and rarely go to amusement parks...we get more fun out of snowmachines, auto racing, motorcycles etc ) I see gambling as a calculated investment, and not a very good one at that. I see it just like gambling on a penny stock or the like.

Just to be clear, I don't fault people for doing it, I'm just talking about me.

And those snow machines, cars, and motorcycles were free right? And cost nothing to operate/maintain?
