Property taxes in UPSTATE (which is not Westchester County or the boro's) NY are higher than CT?

Are you sure about that?

Please provide sources.............

Per $1,000 of value, upstate NY has significantly higher taxes.

I had directed it at mikelizard, BUT since you've interjected here, show me the real numbers. Or stay out of the thread. Thanks for your cooperation!

Stratford: See attached link and I'll await your rebuttal. Enough evidence here for a quick conviction. Upstate NY has horrific taxes.

The Tax Foundation - Property Taxes on Owner-Occupied Housing by County, 2005 - 2009, Ranked by Taxes as Percentage of Home Value (One year averages)

I don't need to read your link.

Check into the area that lies between Rochester and Niagra Falls, for one example. Go look at the actual bills, then come back and try to have a conversation about the matter. Thanks in advance.

Again.

I was curious so I chose a random house in Fairport, NY (a suburb of Rochester). On a house assessed at $257k, their taxes were 8k. In another suburb, Brighton, a house valued at $170k had taxes of 7k.

That's much higher than CT. Granted you get a lot more house for your money up there...

Stratford: Don't be obtuse and read my link. It completely disproves you....

Wilton provided you a source, but you don't need to read it?

Yep, the taxes sure are higher on Multi-Family properties in upstate NY. Tell me again now, in what craptastic city in CT might i find a MF property with lower taxes than the above?

None of those links worked for me.

I looked at two multi-family homes for sale in Rochester:

Assessed at $215k, taxes at over $8k.
Assessed at $183k, taxes at nearly $7k.

Two in Derby:

Assessed at $189k, taxes at $5500
Assessed at $231k, taxes at $6800

There were also a few in West Haven that we a little higher in taxes than Derby, but still not as high as Rochester. It seems that overall, upstate NY is a little higher, though not by much.
