Lol sorry Milford is nice and all but it's not Mayberry. It actually has a lot of white trash from what I have seen. They dont know how to keep up their roads. And what the heck does Milford have for its residents that Stratford doesn't?

It wasn't my intent to slam Milford when i made that comment. The same philosophy would hold true for my town(Stratford) as well. The nearest shoreline communities that would be viewed "favorably" by the OP's colleagues would be Madison and Fairfield. That said, if Milford is good for the OP, then go with it.

Just out of my business mind curiousity, do Doctors look for areas with a bigger population or an area where seniors live? You didnt say what field you're in but I was just wondering.

I have a condo in Milford and it will actually be up for rent come fall. But knowing Milford it is a great choice and I have no issues with your pros and cons except just add Traffic to I-95 around there too. And maybe flooding issues in low lying areas around the beaches. Other than that, go for it.

Nah, I knew that wasn't coming from you. But I know a lot of down to earth doctors and I think those that would turn their nose up at Milford wouldn't be company I'd want to keep.

RE: a previous poster's comment on white trash, there's plenty in Devon. That's why I usually advise against that part of town. Roads are no worse than any other city of its size in CT. They've been redoing most of the sewers, so that's contributed to some roads being torn up for extended periods.

Honestly, i've never been a fan of Milford for reasons that i can't really pinpoint. But i will say, it definitely is far superior when it comes to retail and restaurant choices. It also doesn't have to deal with the "Bridgeport element" either.

I agree that Milford is not Mayberry, but IMO that's one of the best things about the small city. It has everything from "white trash" in Devon to affluent along the coast. It offers shopping for all demographics and activities.

Stratford has many nice parts too, but as SCR said, the Bridgeport influence in some neighborhoods is heavy, and the nice parts of town can get pricey.

I do agree that Milford's road upkeep needs to be better.

I agree that Orange is nothing special - I'm not a fan of Orange myself. Woodbridge is far more upscale than Milford, as it's comparable in demographics to Redding. Madison is nothing like Milford IMO so I wouldn't say it's an upscale "alternative" to Milford.

I like Milford to shop, but I would personally not live there. It's too crowded and the zoning is lacking - there are also too many out of towners that flood Milford on a daily basis so it doesn't have that small town feel. It's just not as family-oriented as I would like (I know you'll disagree, Stylo). I guess I'm partial to small towns.

The "desirability" of these towns is mostly driven by the reputation of the school system. If I were single, married with no kids or an empty nester, I would take Milford over Orange for all the reasons Stylo noted. Throw kids into the equation and the school system becomes the priority. So for a family that can afford to live in Orange or Milford, Orange will win out more often than not because of the schools. And Milford will win out over Stratford for the same reason.

Yes, I know families that have moved out of Milford to neighboring Orange etc. for the same reason. But if someone is not looking for the highest rated school system and is more interested in amenities etc., there is nothing wrong with Milford.

RE: And who is to say some CD posters aren't white trash? LOL, just throwing that out there, although no one wants to consider themselves as such. I think the OP should have a visit to the Milford area to get a better picture of what the area is like.

LOL - statistically, C-D attracts the affluent and well-educated. Just going by the posts in the CT forum by the "regulars", I don't think there are many (if any at all) that are "white trash". True white trash rarely use that term.
