Did some driving around Seymour and drove by some houses. Are there any sections of Seymour we should avoid looking at? We are looking at houses under about 210k.

Seymour is one of the nicer valley towns, IMO. The S. Main Street section near Ansonia is probably the least attractive area. There are some nice sections over near the high school. Giod luck!

As was stated in your other thread, you probably won't find much in Seymour under 200k.

Generally, anything west of Route 8 are the more expensive neighborhoods and east of Route 8 are the more affordable neighborhoods. All of Seymour is safe, but the area dazzleman noted (South Main going toward Ansonia) can have overflow from the dicey Ansonia neighborhoods.

I have a second opportunity in South Portland Maine. Same job title, same pay. Want to compare cost of living, public school quality and town amenities in the two areas. TIA. I also posted this in the Maine forums.

Portland area is a lot cheaper. It is a very different area though, and you might have less job opportunities moving forward.

I don't know anything about Portland or Maine for that matter, but I heard it's a beautiful area. If you like less congestion and a more country feel than CT, you'll probably like it there. A quick search on Zillow shows that you can get a little more for your money up there.

If it were me, I'd stick with CT. But that's my bias speaking.

The weather in Maine is different. It is generally colder with more snow. Portland is a nice city with a great waterfront and a lot of nice restaurants. Still it is a smaller city with less options for entertainment and jobs. Your call which is better suited to you. Jay
