Amazon to begin collecting sales tax in Connecticut this year | Internet & Media - CNET News

The investment of $50mm in Connecticut is a good thing right? It's too bad the cold weather in the state lately hasn't resulted in politicians keeping their hands in their own pocket.

I'm a huge Amazon user and knew this would eventually happen. Not surprised.

So now the question is, how much money did Malloy give Amazon to come to CT? And if they didnt get any money, how much do they NOT have to pay in taxes? I'd be willing to be its more than $50 million...

Another article from the Mirror:
Amazon will collect sales tax, open distribution center | The Connecticut Mirror

Quote:
The governor added that Connecticut expects to gain about $15 million per year in sales tax from Amazon, and offered no incentives to encourage Amazon to open a distribution center here.

"There are no strings attached with respect to this $50 million commitment," he said. "We weren't going to mix the two" issues.
I think Amazon's benefit is that they know the sales tax thing isn't going to go away, and in the big picture, a local shipping center that can get CT buyers shipments same-day or next-day is much more valuable to them.

Yup, same day or next day service all the time, for free... that's how they would get me to shop there even with tax.

Heck I might shop there with tax even without that.

This sucks.

Frankly I prefer to wait for no tax. How urgent do you need something from Amazon?

Im wondering what the states can do if Amazon insist on not opening distribution center?

Great......

While it would be nice to get things faster, I absolute despise the idea of giving more of my money to the government, whether it be federal, state or local.

More revenue will not result in a better disciplined government. It will result in more spending, more bs programs. Sometimes I really wonder sometimes how some people even get by in this state. This state would be better served if we curbed our spending, lowered public workers salaries/benefits, no money to illegals. This state taxes us enough already. They tax us on anything and everything. Some of the highest cost of living, and for what? I dont see my money being put to good use. I would rather keep more of it. I earned it.

I didn't like it until I heard that they will have a facility here. I think that makes it about even, I also order most of my products from Amazon, simply because they are cheaper than any local store.
