It's sad that were losing so many good paying jobs. This is the norm now I suppose. Southern states are net winners when it comes to growth. The Northeast has and will continue to have slower growth than most regions. I think we're doing better than the Midwest IMO but we have so much potential here in CT but we can't deliver.

My company has been downsizing as well though my job is protected. The plan was to move down south to Virginia or Texas back in 2014/2015 but our company decided to stay once we got a "package" from the state which included a decent amount of money. The agreement was to keep the headquarters in state as long as we accepted it. Now we're downsizing to 70 people from the 100 that were at today. It's not a well known company or as prestigious as GE so I'm not sure why we paid the company got a large sum of money. Now the state has to deal with paying us just to keep our headquarters AND the loss of income tax receipts.

Then you better do a well above average job, relative to your colleagues. If a corp is forced to lay off, they will cherry pick based on performance as much as possible.

I think these days lots of jobs are being lost period, due to economic conditions but also technological advances. We might talk in this forum about high paying jobs specifically being lost but I see in the news all the time much more numbers of lower paying jobs being lost in southern states. Some jobs are more valuable to the economy of course but if we're just talking about impact to people's lives IDK if anyone should really feel safe anywhere.
