Well, at least the OP will now be able to afford a spacious, upscale home built this millennium.

Have fun dumping thousands and thousands of dollars into your 100-year-old prized money pit, er, I mean, *home* in CT!

It sucks to suck.

You mean a high quality home with Chinese dry wall and faux brick facade? Cheap looking vinyl siding that warps over time. Mass produce garbage?

Well, I am one of the potentially effected employees. Looks like end of year and I am out, we will be seeking a move with the company to either Charlotte or Raleigh/Durham, I really don't blame the company at all if it is better for them...they are a good company to work for in the time I have been there, question is do I transfer to another company say Prudential or the Hartford and risk the same thing happening again? Or try something new. Face it, ct is not a business friendly state in terms of real estate costs, etc etc. No job is safe here unless you are a state worker, even then I don't know. So, we are going to see if I can transfer and see what happens. I just don't see much big business in the Hartford area growing, but see more of the same relocations in the future

FWIW, I heard that out of this 2,600 employee shift, only 200 actually work out of Connecticut. That includes the Bloomfield office, as well as other smaller CT offices (e.g. Westport).

Also, the Barnum Financial office in Shelton remains untouched. Although they use the MetLife branding, I heard they operate with a completely separate cost center akin to a franchise buying rights to sell under a brand name.

I was wondering when someone was going to point that out comp. we should also remind posters that MetLife is not even a CT company. Their presence here is fairly limited.

There are 2200 workers in the Bloomfield office. I think 90% of the workers are leaving CT. So about 2000 however some might decide to find other jobs instead.

The building will probably be sold to Cigna the rumor I hear is it will be shut down by the end of 2013.

I work in the bloom field office, there are not 2200 workers there, maybe 1300 or so, but trust me, more than 200 are losing their jobs...I'd say more like 80% if not more by 2015.

Good luck, and the underlined portion means you are likely making the correct decision. I also work for a corp that has treated me superbly, and if we relocated the company, I'd move with them as well.

I see this "lack of culture" comment all the time---could you be more specific? Culture as in museums, orchestras, ballet, symposiums, continuuing education? Lack of sophistication? Groupthink?
I'm not trying to be snarky, but wonder what is being referred to.

Are you forgetting people from places such as CT are FLOCKING to North Carolina? It's more common to find someone from the North, rather than someone who was born here.

Funny how you guys talk about lack of culture, yet I bet 99% of you haven't been here long enough to find it, because it's definitely here.

Define culture that we "lack"
Are you referring to museums, orchestras, ballet, symposiums and continuing education? Because we have plenty of that.

Continue to bash and complain, at least we now have 2,600 new jobs and some people moving with them.
