Hello everyone,

I have lived in NC my entire life and am planning to move to CT for job in Wilton. My GF is enrolling in school at Quinnipiac University in Hamden. We want to live together but Google maps says two locations are approx 40 min apart. Does anyone have a good suggestion for places to live in-between? We are young-ish so any place with stuff to do (bars, sports, etc) would be nice. New Haven and Bridgeport seem to be biggest cities between. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Probably Milford or Fairfield. They are both close to highways so you can easily get to the Merritt Parkway to Hamden and Wilton. Fairfield will be a little more on the pricier side than Milford.

Since when did Wilton become a jobs powerhouse? Probably half of the recent job relocation posts here on C-D have centered around Wilton. Crazy.

Aren't there quite a few corporate offices along Route 7 in southern Wilton?

I think you need to provide us with a little more information. What type of area do you want to live in, rural, suburban or urban? How much can you afford to spend and what do you expect to get for your money? Keep in mind you are moving to one of the most expensive parts of the country so do not expect to get a large luxury apartment for the same price as NC.

That said, I would likely recommend you live a little closer to Wilton. You will be the one that has to deal with traffic so the closer for you the better. Her trip will be pretty easy because she will be going against traffic not with it like you. Considering this, I would recommend Fairfield. It is a nice town with a great downtown with nice shops and restaurants. Your commute will be somewhat reasonable (about 45 minutes with traffic) and hers will be about 40 minutes. Keep in mind though that Fairfield may be a bit pricey but there are some more reasonable areas you can consider. Again it depends what you expect for your money.

Another nice area that you may want to consider is the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. This is a small urban village near the water which also has shops and restaurants and a number of apartments to rent. Generally though I recommend staying west of Ellsworth Street. To the east begins to get a bit dicey. Jay

Irregardless of what the OP's budget is, i think i would recommend looking at Shelton before looking in Black Rock. The OP and his GF are both going to need Rt. 15 for their commutes. I think Shelton has easier accessibility than Black Rock.

Very good point. But if they want a more urban environment which was mentioned, Black Rock may be an option. Jay

Black Rock, Fairfield, Milford, Shelton, Stratford are all viable options IMO.
