Hmm, yeah, I took a look and did a search. Prices have dropped significantly. Interesting.... Surprised what would've been 750k a few years ago is now 500k, maybe less.

Yeah, saw similar results myself after a quick few searches. Prices are down--I'm surprised. These softer home prices are not necessarily a great thing for the CT market, but it is good for buyers.

Look carefully at that listing. It is likely that 1,500 square feet of that house is the basement and the house is actually 2,500 square feet. Real estate agents today are more and more inflating the size of homes by including the basement. I find that kind of sleezy. If you go to the town's land records you can get the actual size of the house which is more and more a lot less than an agent puts into their ads. Jay

You’re right that how realtors list homes today are sleazy much of the time. That home was just one of many though. Look at the reductions made on homes in Westport, Darien, New Canaan, Greenwich. It’s incredible. Look at Wilton - you can now get a small starter home for under 350k. Wilton’s home prices are what they were in 2009. As someone else said, great for buyers. Terrible for sellers.

Until I see actual stats regarding CT’s job creation, I’m not buying that CT companies are “hiring at an insane clip”.

I see posters claiming how many millennials are moving here, so the growth and job creation must be insane - then when we see actual stats on lack of growth, many of the same posters say “but we can’t afford growth anyway, we don’t have room, it’s not always a good thing”.

C’mon. Which is it?
You seem to think that these are mutually exclusive. Just because you are not seeing the overall numbers increase does not mean that there aren't some employers hiring a lot of people. No one has claimed anything otherwise. I have given you several examples of this so there is no denying some employers here are expanding at a good pace.

The same thing goes for the ranking on Millenials moving to New Haven. You do not have to have a big increase in employment or population to have a high number of Millenials move here. And again no one is claiming otherwise. Jay

Uhhh... I have NOT seen anything that dramatic. Not even close. There are 10 homes on the market in Westport under $500,000 but according to their price history, none were ever listed near $750,000. I don't think any were even over $600,000. Please post these homes. Jay

The part that is missing is that there will 7,000 - 8,000 of us retiring. The net gain will only be 1,000 - 2,000. Still a gain non the less.

What is truly sad is that we have 1268 pages on this thread dating back 6 years that have essentially discussed/argued the same issues. Any incremental changes for good or bad will not move CT substantially in one direction or the other until the underfunded liability problem is solved by our elected officials. Unfortunately they apparently do not see it as enough of a priority to move beyond their political parties to address and barely gave it any time in this past legislative session. How do we change that? I believe it takes an independent group of citizens and businesses bringing forward a solution. If the climate is that bad for business then it's time for our major corporations as well as small businesses and citizens groups to step up with a real solution to the problem.

The businesses who have the means to do so have spoken - with their feet.
