Isn't that illegal? Why isn't it being followed up on?

I really dislike that company on multiple levels.

The 2 families have multi generational FU money. Should have sold years ago. They have had unsolicited offers for far more than 10B over 10 years back.
They were very close to a sale as mentioned earlier. CV screwed it up.
No one in the family wants any involvement. Takes a special breed to get up every day to run a global brand with all its issues to try and squeeze out a few bucks. Heck 6 month T bills pay almost 5%!

If they compartmentalize layoffs over time they don't have to WARN. Big Sandwich knows what they're doing.

Those 400 jobs eliminated were not only here in Connecticut. They were worldwide. There may not have been a WARN notice issued because the number of jobs eliminated here was less than the minimum required for it. Jay

It is illegal, but if you look at their history, including the ones at hq where the police on scene caught the media's eye, the few times they filed, they did it AFTER.

The act requires a filing 60 days ahead of first terminations short of extreme situations, like liquidation of a company or large parts of it not seen until the last minute (picture a factory burning down as the type of exception that would not be a violation to not file in advance).

50 requires a notice. I think we can be sure less than 350 cuts were elsewhere, as today's column discussed the 400 cuts in the same paragraph stating the city knew 700 hq jobs existed in 2021 in Milford.

They know the law is not enforced, and sadly there are others, like Subway, who take advantage of that. This is NOT the first time they ignored that law.

False. If it is part of a single reorganization, the total quantity affected is what triggers the law. So, a corp can lay off 100 in a planned cutback, but do it 25 a week, and legally they MUST file a WARN notice for 100.

If you read the state database, honest employers include positions, timelines, in supporting pages. Many file amended notices as quantities and dates become clearer to them.

It's a Catch 22. The Government is afraid to call a rogue corp out.

Ditto. I've known several victims who worked at the hq; they have never had even a decent reputation as an employer.

Poor pay. Well below industry norms. Never fired anyone for cause. Unless they committed a criminal act. Even then. Nepotism ran amok. Which made advancement tricky. Never knew which higher up was saving a position for a cousin, son etc…
The end result was a company ran like a Mom & Pop. Highly dysfunctional. The best and brightest left.
