Looks like Windsor Locks is getting an upscale outlet mall.

Premium Outlet mall set for Windsor Locks | HartfordBusiness.com

I'll add Windsor Locks to my new upcoming town lists. They have a good amount of development going on in that town and with the Airport right there is it a perfect location.

Not a terrible location actually, right between Springfield and Hartford. The nearest outlets are an hour away in Lee or Clinton. Lots of flat tobacco fields with highway access waiting for development.

I wonder how 350,000 square feet sizes up to Lee or Clinton. What happened to the outlet plan at Rentschler?

I've always thought the housing stock in Windsor Locks to be poor in comparison to East, South and Windsor itself.

I had heard about this and I agree it could be good. It will be nice to have an outlet center closer to Hartford. Jay

Windsor Locks is a small former mill town really so you are correct that its housing stock is generally poorer than say South Windsor or Windsor. Still there are a lot of nice neighborhoods in town and its location between Bradley Airport and the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield train line make it a good bet for even more development. Jay

I also saw this which I thought was interesting. A retail developer is giving free rent in several of its shopping centers to startup retailers. What a great idea. I was not surprised at some of the centers they are doing this at but was surprised to see a Wilton center listed. Nice of them to do this in the heart of expensive Fairfield County where I am sure they could have found a more than willing tenant. Jay

Finally... It's nice to finally see our state rank in the top 10 of something. But holy wow check out our "financial safety" score. That's scary shocking... 1. Massachusetts Financial Safety rank: 16 Road Safety rank: 1... Photo-photo.115730 - NewsTimes

There was some discussion here on whether Hartford is still the Insurance Capital of the World. I think this sort of solidifies it, Hartford has the highest concentration of Actuaries in the country. It also has a high concentration of underwriters. Jay

Don't we already have enough outlets in CT ha. Two I can think of right now...really like Tanger outlets. Guess an outlet near the airport, as long as it doesn't take away land from the Blue Trail. Still hoping to find full time work in CT, keeping fingers crossed.

Have you (or anyone else) been to the new Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods? We went a few weeks back and I thought the layout was horrible. It is attached to the casinos (it spans from the Pequot Tower over to the old MGM Tower) but to get the main shopping corridor you must go up or down a level. There is no way to get directly into the mall. There are no exits or entrances directly from outside and the one elevator that services the mall is down a long narrow corridor. Not very inviting.

The mall itself is kind of narrow and the doors from the stores open directly out into the path of people walking up and down the mall. They have seating areas a several spots along the mall which act as choke points for pedestrian traffic. Finally the architecture is nothing interesting or inviting, just very plain and stark. It is not inviting at all or conducive to shopping. I know I won't go back. At least Clinton Crossing is attractive. Jay
