I never have trusted those portable carnival style rides. I just get the feeling that these companies aren't maintaining them to the degree necessary and there is little oversight until something like this happens. Thankfully, none of the injuries were serious (that I've heard).

I never trust rides like that. When I went to a carnival when I was about twelve, on one of the rides like that my door opened. Luckily there were seat belts and I was wearing one and holding on tightly trying to pull the door back. I wish these types of things were inspected more thoroughly because some issues could end up being deadly. Thankfully nobody was seriously injured.

Wasn't there a similar accident or a death several years ago which resulted in tougher laws and inspections on carnivel rides? Jay

Last I heard was the "power went out" during the ride... I assume that means the compressor that holds the ride "up" went out as well.

I know there was a death in Austin on a ride like this right before I left.

A women was ejected from a large permanent coaster at Six Flags Arlington, Texas about a month ago. Horrible. She was riding with her family.

We went to the Milford Oyster Fest a few weeks ago and we wandered through the section where the rides are. They were all in poor condition, rust all over the bottoms of the rides and cars( it was a spin around type ride that you sit in). You can see that they they are just put up,taken apart and moved to the next location quickly. I am guessing there is not much in the way of visual inspections done.......also guessing the Norwalk fest probably used the same ride company.I wouldnt put my kids on these, let alone rides that are propped up on wooden blocks..........

These corps operate on the cheap, skimp on safety, and truthfully, the government should INSIST on safety being increased exponentially in most cases, and failure to do so, should result in a complete shutdown at the parent company level.

Short of that, we have no right to cry when at some point, 18 injuries become 18 DOAs, or worse.

Short of that, we have blood on our hands.

The company in question has been in business for 30 years and had never had an accident prior to Sunday.
