Here is an itinerary that includes Connecticut in a nice summer road trip. In fact, when I lived in Maryland I did this quite a bit

1) Gettysburg , Lancaster county, Appalachian drive, then take i84 east and stop in the pocono mountains

Drive into western CT bear mountain

Litchfield wineries

Stop in old Windsor. Go route 6 to providence and stop in those towns , go into the Cape Cod area

Ferry to Boston , visit the towns around Boston... Go i93 to i91 to i89 and stop in white mountains

Hike mt Washington or do the flume

Go into Burlington ....come down Vermont via 4 and I91. On way out go down to new haven and west haven then Merritt into NYC and then go down through NJ

Stop in Cape May, NJ

Take ferry into Lewes, Delaware and then Chesapeake back into Maryland

It's pretty and it passes right through CT on a summer road tri

Connecticut is strategically located. You can do a road trip that includes sites in Connecticut along a stretch of drive through surrounding area. You can go from Niagara Falls to the Cape, from Montreal to New London and boat into Nagatauk , NY Hamptons

Many NYC-Boston excursions anyhow make Connecticut drive an easy place to pass into and relax

I'm surprised you'd say that, don't you own property in Milford? In Milford alone, Trumbull, Gulf Street, Point Beach, Morningside Ave, Beach Ave all provide pretty stunning water views from the comfort of a car. I find it therapeutic to drive by the water.

I take drives in Branford, Guilford, Madison out to Old Saybrook all the time. Stunning coastal drives. Southport into Westport is another nice one. I'm sure there's plenty others eastward.

They're off the beaten path, but gorgeous nonetheless.

People visiting from around the world should visit Camden, NJ . Fun, I have to go to Detroit on Friday-Sunday. Hopefully I will make out alive. Hopefully no one steals my BMW .

I think he/she might mean bear mountain in litchfield county, not the very popular bm in ny. I think bm in litchfield co. might be the highest peak in ct? I could be wrong about that factoid, but it is nevertheless pretty. No scenic vistas similar to those the mountain in ny is known for though. There's also bear mountain reserve in Danbury, which is nice, but is really no more than a hiking trail... so I don't think he/she is talking about that -- too random

This really questionable considering the thousands of people from New York who do road trips through Connecticut every weekend. Again this just appears to be opinion. Jay

A lot has to do with the small size of the state, I'm sure Rhode Island, New Jersey and Delaware rank similar. But it's sure as heck of a lot more scenic than much of the flat midwest (and non-coastal Florida for that matter).

It's close, it's actually part of Mt. Frissell that is the highest. The mountain's summit is actually in Massachusetts (state line goes through the mountain) but that highest part inside CT is higher than any other part of the state (2379 ft. above sea level). Bear Mountain is the highest mountain to be entirely in CT (summit at 2316 ft). I think CT is the only state with this unique "highest point"

"Through" not "TO". That's the problem. Releasing your bowls at the I-95 roadside plaza and intentionally planning a road trip to CT are very different creatures.

I'm sure a lot of people drive through Iowa on cross country trips, but how many people spend money there on anything but a passive tank of gas or a coffee? Doesn't mean much IMO

Connecticut has unique minor geological structures, including the source of Hosmer Birch beer in the Rocky northeast quiet corner of the state, the highlands east and west of CT River, talcott mountain ridge, the drive on route 9 south and the Lyme-East Lyme stone roads, the farm houses east of Windsor

It's a beautiful drive. Also the drive to Litchfield through Bristol and Unionville is nice

Do you know how many people come TO Connecticut each week? A lot of people come here otherwise places like Mystic, Litchfield and the lower Connecticut River Valley would be empty. Go to any of these places on a weekend and you will see hundreds of out of state vehicles. I think you under estimate the amount of people that come here from out of state. Jay
