looks like most of the top schools stayed the same.

The top 3 are all the same - Darien, Wilton and then Weston - as the previous year.

biggest climb up the rankings from the prior year are: Law HS in Milford, going up 35 spots, from 105 to 70 and East Windsor, going up 34 spots from 116 to 82
biggest drops are Sheehan in Wallingford, going from 43 to 107, a plummet of 64 spots, Windham dropping 50 spots to 171 and Rocky Hill, surprisingly, going down from 47 to 96, a drop of 49 spots.

If that were the case, then New/East/West Haven should have amazing schools.

Actually, from my observations, most seem to live in New Haven (specifically Westville and East Rock). Woodbridge, while I'm sure there are some professors, is widely known for being a town of doctors and lawyers.

The Yale profs I've worked with, if they live in New Haven, largely seem to send their kids to the private schools in New Haven.

Right - which kind of debunks NewJeff's theory of prestigious universities in the area = good public schools.

UCONN is likely one of the largest employers within the vicinity of mansfield/tolland/willington/ashford. Yale is an
Yale, while also a large employer is amidst many other corporations and is within commuting distance to many desirable towns.

Berkeley high school is a good example of how proximity of regarded universities affects the performance of schools.

The city of Berkeley's largest employer is, by far, UC Berkeley. The city itself is about the same size as New Haven, and at least as dangerous as Waterbury to live in (especially around campus). The distribution of income is similar to Norwalk (with the median HHI actually lower at Berkeley). Demographically, excluding those enrolled at UC Berkeley, it is similar to Norwalk and its peers.
Berkeley High School's (public) average SAT score is consistently around 1675-1700, while SAT scores in schools at Norwalk and similar cities in Connecticut are generally below 1500.

The same can be said for the Boston area mentioned one page back.

New/East/West Haven harbor a (relatively) large populus and are long established areas with a diverse demography. The towns around UCONN (storrs), on the other hand, are far less populated and more homogenous. This allows for an institution to greater impact on the surrounding area (of which higher performing schools is one). In addition, UCONN is likely one of the largest employers within the vicinity of mansfield/tolland/willington/ashford, while Yale is one of many employers in the New Haven area.
Add to that, Yale is within commuting distance to many desirable towns and some well regarded private schools.

Berkeley High School (and many public schools in college towns--e.g.- Storrs) is a good example of how the proximity of regarded universities affects the performance of schools.

TLDR; The Haven's aren't college towns, and are much less desirable than their surrounding towns.

Yes, and lexington, winchester, brighton ,newton, etc. all happen to be within commuting distance to prestigious colleges (BC,BU,tufts,Harvard,MIT,etc.). with high performing schools, while Cambridge and Somers tend to have mediocre schools. Of course, proximity to these institutions is not the sole reason for the higher academic performance in these towns, but it plays a nontrivial role.

What i mean to say is: The Boston area has many desirable areas for employees of these institutions to live in that provide a reasonable commute (to both the universities and other employment), while UCONN, Davis, Ann Arbor, etc. don't.
