As we say in the south I'm not trying to be a goober but I've seen some job openings listed at a Tasca Ford in Berlin and also been looking into a Berkshire Motors in I believe Newtown? Was curious if anyone had any first hand knowledge of any of these 2 places?

Have been looking a lot more into Seymour and Berlin but the Berkshire Motors also got my attention which is not in either of the above mentioned.

I'm happy to have narrowed it down to a couple CT towns, I came up with my future home by going broader then reducing the size of the circle until I found my idea of what I would want from a New England lifestyle. Really all need is to be able to have a commute time of 60 minutes or less.

Anyways if anybody knows about these companies work cultures, reputation, and turnover rates, I'd be interested. Thank you again Connecticut for your assistance.

You could live in Seymour and work in Newtown easily. Easy commute.

I've been told that seymour to berlin is not a smart idea. So I am curious to know if what I like about Seymour combined with job prospects in Berlin if I should just go in the middle. Then I can have a little more of everything

The commute from Seymour to Berlin would be difficult - you'd need to take back roads through Ansonia or Woodbridge to get on 15 North/Merritt Parkway and then go up the Merritt all the way into Berlin. You'd hit a few lights along the way on the Merritt, so most of the trip would not be at "highway" speeds.

The longer route (mileage wise) would be go up Route 8 into Waterbury and then take 84 East towards Hartford and then 691 through Cheshire and Meriden then 5/15 North to Berlin.

Google maps has close to an hour either way - and, that's at 12:15 on a Wednesday and not at rush hour.

Seymour to Berlin is a tough commute, but Seymour to Newtown is easy peasy. It would take you 15 minutes to get there from western Seymour - right up 34.

If you worked in Berlin, there are a lot of affordable towns in that area. You might like Durham and Middlefield. Nice and rural. The East Haddam/Chester area is nice too.

Saw a listing for a nice little country home on 40 Maryland Drive in Middlefield, 169k, that's affordable. I think Connecticut is expensive because some may make it that way. Now sure ya'll are over taxed but to me trying to seek out a home that costs 800k when you can find quaint little country homes in Connecticut for 250k or less seems more down to earth. Willingly wanting to carry an 800k debt load over the course of 30 years seems like it would be asking for trouble.

With the property taxes and mortgage and based on our combined incomes we could swing that home and still be around 685 dollars a week ahead of the game. I did all my calculations and divided by 4 as in 4 weeks worth of pay checks to see how well we would do on 105k annually and so far was able to prove to myself that even in the northeast, there are affordable homes with the charm and quality of life that small town USA offers.

I've been a hardworking guy my whole life and have been blessed to earn a decent paycheck, not once did I ever have to go to Manhattan to earn a good living.

Yes, if you journey outside of Fairfield County, there are a decent amount of affordable homes in CT.

If you want lower property taxes,Chester (mill rate 24 or so) would be a better choice than Middlefield (mill rate around 33)

(the home on Maryland Drive is listed as on deposit/continue to show on realtor.com)

Well Connecticut I do appreciate all your help and hospitality but if I do this I have finally found my region, absolutely gorgeous. Only discouraging thing is the host in this video is encouraging people to come build because apparently there is a lot of land.

Developers leave our farm lands alone and go destroy somewhere else.
