I'd say "rudeness" is subjective and a judgement upon others. Go on about your business.

I say excuse me. Usually 3-4 times before the person in question pays attention - by that point I've lost my patience and will usually push my way through. I also say I'm sorry if I accidentally clip someone if I'm in a rush.

I find it's town dependent honestly.

If someone is trying to guide a grocery cart past someone else or reach for a product on a shelf, and can do so without making physical contact, no "excuse me" is necessary. It's only if physical contact is unavoidable.

The point of saying "excuse me" is to alert the obstacle party that the "excuser" is getting close enough for a collision. People in New England don't wander around asking pardon to everyone in close proximity, if no collision is imminent. Yankees like quiet enjoyment, no excessive prattle.

So many people on this forum who claim CT is so reserved forget that many CT residents have the obnoxious loud mouth attitude prevalent in New York and New Jersey.

I love New York too, but if you don't find anything wrong with being an obnoxious loud mouth, then I feel for you.

Most people in CT, or at least Fairfield County, have that Stepford wife personality - even the guys. Not at all loud mouth.

I like the Northeast better than the Midwest. The Midwest people have an short man complex.
