I know many who have moved w/o regret. At the end of the day, a state is simply a land mass. People pay attention to family and career possibilities. Every state has great physical features, plus bad physical features.

The Business climate plus COL it creates are largely a result of the choices its politicians and citizens voting create by their choices. Ours is a horror show. We can't even equal New England growth, let alone US growth.

I see many posters here in this thread who left Ct. Most, just like I, did not regret leaving. Our COL is totally out of control, far outpacing wage gains, and we rank amongst nations worst in job growth

A thread like "Most people that leave" would be inappropriate in the high growth regions of this nation, but we have the opposite issue. I posted an article showing while Ct kept population flat- we lost 175k under age 50 vs a few decades ago. At a time when <50 USA overall went up.

Several of the 175k have posted here. (To name a few, you, nep321, stephy0519, kidyankee)

This isn't restricted to CT and is a nationwide problem. Only a handful of areas have seen explosive wage growth in America, and the places that have, also had explosive growth in COL.

The utopia you keep looking for doesn't exist in America, unless you are extremely wealthy and can play the "tax arbitrage" game with your income.

Tax arbitrage isn't for the middle class.

CT has to much debt,a small state with out enough income to support itself. As they try to tax everything and anything they will drive people with money and education away.

"a state is simply a land mass"
Are you sure about that?

"Ours (CT) is a horror show"
Are you sure about that?

CT vs MS (or two land masses)

Category.........................Connecticut...... .................Mississippi
Schools...............................#5 (college ready #1*)......#47 (college ready #49)
Per Capita Income 2017........$70,121 (#1).....................$36,346 (#50)
Life Expenctancy...................80.8 (#4)..........................75 (#50)
Crime 2017**......................6th Safest..........................50th (the worst)
etc.

States are not just land masses when you dig deeper. I would not live in Mississippi even if some gave me a paid mansion for the rest of my life and all the money in the world.

*College readiness is HUGE (by ACT and SAT scores) and I would almost go by that when comparing states. How do we know how each state is grading it's school systems. The ACT and SAT scores are national while other scores are not, right?

**Florida is #46 in crime. I know people who have lived in Florida who have moved back to Connecticut because they say the crime is getting so bad. Looks like they are correct. Texas #47 and Tennessee #39. You are going to save a few pesos and risk high crime. No thanks.

Let's talk about ECONOMIC GROWTH. Of course if the majority of your residents are making low incomes and more low income jobs come to your state you will experience MORE GROWTH. But is that what we want in CT? I think the kind of growth we have that keeps our PER CAPITA INCOME the highest (or in the top 5) is best. If you have a bunch of people working in the fields at the lowest wages and it doubles is that good? Wouldn't it be better to have slower growth but build a foundation of really smart residents who make 10X of what the workers in the fields make?

We will not experience decent growth until we learn to control costs and eliminate tax increases.

That I agree with because the taxes proposed are out of control.

Don't blame me, I voted for every Republican running on the state level including Governor.

Many states version of the CBIA like their state government. Ours properly abhors ours. Our pols know squat except how to tax more, make government bigger. That is not acceptable to business anymore. No business is a hostage. We should know that watching GEExit, Diageo leaving, plus dozens more who have found greener pastures.

Plus , despite many here telling us Ct is Nirvana, we could not produce one member on the HQ2 Tope 20 list. Even Stamford was one of 218 "also rans".

I am. Life is far less expensive and complicated here in the south. Most noticeable difference is the sense of optimism.

What part?

Many southeastern regions are accurately optimistic. Growth has been spectacular.

The only reason I left was economics and to a lesser degree the changing political landscape which led to the current fiscal mess of the state.
