I was in the area today and Rt 3 north Putnam bridge into Glastonbury was only one lane. Traffic was backed up at least a mile. Something was also going on with i-384 from the entrance in Bolton to Exit 2. They had one lane - than two lanes closed. Although when I went thru at about 4:30 it looked like they were wrapping it up for the day.
The state used to do the same thing on the Merritt when they were "rebuilding" the section in Trumbull and Fairfield. Constantly causing traffic during rush hour on a road that's already crazy busy.
I was coming home this evening from Glastonbury. Cruising along the first 20 miles heading east, until traffic comes to a DEAD STOP around exit 22 in Lebanon.
It took me 45 minutes to go the next 5 miles. The road was down to half a lane (right lane completely closed, cones stuck in the middle of the left lane, so traffic forced to use a very narrow left shoulder). I saw several vehicles backing up at the on-ramp to avoid this mess.
Please tell me WTF the DOT was doing here. There are plenty of people heading out to the beach areas, casino, etc.....is this REALLY the time to 'fix' a road that is completely fine?
If for whatever reason DOT *had* to do the roadwork around 6pm on a Friday summer evening...they could have at least posted a warning on the VMS, so that traffic could exit at Route 11 and follow Route 85 to loop around it.
STOP WASTING RESOURCES ON ROUTE 2. ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP.

Thanks for the warning! I got stuck on Rt 2 westbound in the evening...probably over a month ago...despite checking ahead on Google Maps before I left the Providence area. Same thing, took me about 45 min to go 3 miles. Since then, I started taking 101 to 44 to 84, avoiding the whole mess altogether. When is this supposed to end?
What were they doing yesterday on westbound near Pitkin Street before 3? I couldn't tell if they were putting the "road work" signs out or picking them up. They are still sitting in the median today
Who knows? I commuted on Route 2 for two years....and virtually that entire time there's been some sort of repaving project going on.
The thing is....Route 2 is completely fine, relative to the rest of the state's roads. Why they are wasting money on this...and needlessly aggravating drivers....is beyond me.
Thanks again, CT DOT for spending my tax dollars so very wisely.

So the idiots have shut down the entrance to Rt 2 east from Governor Street in East Hartford - with no sign stating it's shut down until you are stuck on the highway. Only way out is over the Founders into Hartford with a uturn back.

From Marlborough to Colchester it was anything but fine.
