The trains arrive too early or too late in both Hartford and New Haven to be practical for most commutes.

The 7:20 out of New Haven gets to Hartford at 8:06. The 7:13 out of Hartford gets you into New Haven at 8:01. That should work fine for most commuters. Not sure why you think it won’t work. Jay

Many have to be in by 8 am. Are there earlier trains?

You have to wait few months to see ridership numbers then the schedule can be flexible

Most jobs start at 9AM, so if you want to arrive early and your employer allows you to leave early with a flexible schedule, it could work–but that's not the most common arrangement.

You are right. It’s just terrible planning and and a bad schedule for maximizing early ridership. I had been looking forward to riding the train but with this schedule I’ll continue to commute by car.

No, all of the major insurance companies, banks and the state offices in Hartford have flexible work hours. The employee picks the time they start and then leave after they complete their hours. Even smaller offices do this. The days of 9:00 to 5:00 jobs are long gone and quite frankly have not existed in Hartford for decades. Also remember the insurance industry in Hartford have long embraced work-from-home. Years ago I heard from a reliable source that more than 50% of the Hartford insurance workers work from home. That means they only head into the office for meetings. Also many office workers start early so the earlier train would work for them. Again as ridership increases the state will add trains. Jay

To my knowledge, most insurance jobs are 8-4:30. There aren’t many 9 to 5 jobs these days.

That is one industry though, many others are more like 9-6

So if the insurance industry starts at 8, then the train is late?

It’s the major industry in Hartford, though.

And yeah, the train would be late. I’m just commenting on work times, not suggesting these train times are convenient.
