Even though Colorado made $135 million in tax revenue from marijuana sales last year, I doubt this will get far. Even though we tend to be a liberal state, Connecticut is pretty provincial in thinking and social progress. Jay

Which is to bad... this would resolve a bunch of issues!
Even if we did legalize it and it generated tax revenue, the way this state spends money they'd blow through it in about a year and they'd be scrambling to find some other way to raise cash.

I think Itll be brilliant if the money generated from legalized weed would go straight to transportation projects. Over $100 million a year is not a whole lot but every penny counts. Over a decade that's well over a billion dollars...

Massachusetts has a vote for legalization this November. If MA legalizes pot, then VT, RI and CT will soon follow.

8 months later and I'm surprised this isn't being discussed as often as it should be. We have Maine and Massachusetts voting to get it legalized next month. I believe Maine will pass it but MA is a little iffy to me. MA is a nanny state and while many young people in MA will vote for it IMO, it certainly won't be good for CT. Being first to legalize it is a plus since all the NE residents will flood to MA, spend money, and generate tax revenue. Sure, it's against the law to transport marijuana across state borders but hardly anyone is going to follow that. MA has gotten really smart and has transformative leadership which is something CT lacks. The casino and pot legalization will most definitely heavily give advantages to the MA government.
If it is legalized in MA it will make the drug effectively legal in all of new england.
I say this because the states are so close together that traveling from CT to pick it up would be so easy to do. It takes only about 30 minute to get to Springfield from Hartford

I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff but I would assume it would make drug dealers in CT more profitable since they can sell pot cheaper in MA than the marker value because of the taxes associated when buying them. CT residents can grow pot plants and once everything is sellable, just drive up to Springfield and sell for cheaper.
