God forbid any development in Avon. This is the problem with CT, not here, not my town.

Typical NIMBY garbage.

Who needs economic development anyway?

Zero regard for the big picture in this state. You'd think the stagnant population growth would send a message.

first comment on the article was a good one - "because having a vacant lot for 4 years is better than having a business that brings in money."

heck, it's a BMW dealership, not Junior Samples asking you to call BR549 to buy this week's junk heap that's up on blocks along the road.

Now class, let's see a show of hands. One of these will provide luxury products with adequate demand and generous tax revenue, and the other sits empty and does nothing. What should you choose here?

While I agree with you, most people don't really look beyond their own little world and how things might affect them.

Having lived in Avon before, they still have to battle over school budgets with the cranky & motivated old people opposing any sort of tax increase, despite the school quality probably doubling the town property values.

At first I was thinking that site was more toward Route 202 where the town is looking to create more of a village center but this is further out next to the Big Y shopping center so I am not seeing the issue. You will always get people complaining about change but depending how this is planned out the proposed dealership seems reasonable to me. Jay

OTOH, you could think of it as the fact that old people don't care about property values, if they plan on living in the house forever. Value going up just means more taxes =)

well, if they have children or grandchildren and aren't estranged from them, wouldn't they rather leave them a home worth $350,000 vs a home with $250,000 or $175,000? That difference could help pay for college for a grandchild.
