Rocky Hill is still a very nice suburban community. There has been a lot of development on the West Side over the past 30 years with retail stores along Route 3, office buildings near I-91 and a lot of houses to the west. More recently, a few apartment complexes have been built around town with more being planned. Silas Deane Highway is still kind of the same as it was but there is now a Kohl's and Aldi's there as well as a couple of new store and office buildings. In general, the town is pretty much the same as when I lived there 30 years ago. Jay
I am very happy to read these posts. I was looking at an apartment-turned-condo many years ago, where I used to live. It looks as lovely as when I lived there.
I lived in Rocky Hill as a kid from 1986 to 1995. But I occasionally go there for errands or lunch or whatever. Overall, it's just as pleasant of a town as it was 20-30 years ago. It's quaint, clean, quiet and convenient. Nice town. I love Asian Bistro!
Rocky Hill is still a nice town - it's grown from about 15,000 in the mid 80s to around 20,000 now. Starting in the 1990s, they started building more new homes in Rocky Hill, many of which are pretty large. So, the town that had a lot of ranches, raised ranches and split level homes built in the 1950s and 1960s has added a decent amount of higher end housing stock. I still think of it as the same place as before, though. Agree with Jay that there has been some retail development along Route 3 going into Cromwell, but it's still a nice town.
Definitely not downhill. To me, it lacks the cachet of the Farmington Valley towns, but seems pleasant enough to live in.
It also lacks their traffic congestion and awkward highway access. Rocky Hill's location and ease of travel in all directions is spectacular. My only reservation would be that it seems a little boring and maybe lacking character, but that could just be my unfamiliarity. The only thing I can think of that is notable about Rocky Hill is the dinosaur park.
I used to live in Brookwood Village, by the old cemetery. I ate a lot of "Friendly's Ice Cream".
Brookwood Village is now turned condo and I think I might like to check out the area again.
I also hate the beach, so most FLA condos aren't a real selling point for me. Most of the condos are in coastal areas. It's nice, but I really don't go to the beach due my intolerance of heat.

I thought that was one of the main reason why people move to Florida because of the water
