If you ever see ropes tied off to trees on top of those cliffs or on the reservoir side, don't eff with it, as those are attached to people 50ft above solid traprock...

Ragged is good exercise, which in my currently very busy yet completely sedentary life, is an important use of 2 hours of my time lol. You can get to reservoir by cutting through the mountain on one of at least 2 trails marked on that map. There's also a few unmarked throughout.
Yes, at the memorial there was a rope tied to a tree there. I thought it was part of the memorial.
We turned around at the point because the blue/red trail met up with the blue one and that trail seemed to go up a very steep high wall and my wife and I said no way.....so we backtracked. We went left at the 3 way fork in the beginning......it seems next time if we go straight or to the right, we will cut to the reservoir. Not sure how challenging that way is. Overall, a ton of fun and very scenic. It was a great day for it and there were a good amount of people out and enjoying it.

Just came across this.. Will post photos in the CT Photo thread. (no idea why you guys aren't posting pictures there)

DEEP: Letterboxing Clues for Naugatuck State Forest

Naugatuck State Forest covers almost 5,000 acres and is spread across Naugatuck, Beacon Falls, Oxford, Bethany, Hamden, Cheshire, Ansonia, and Seymour. It is organized into five Blocks, named West, East, Mt. Sanford, Quillinan Reservoir, and Great Hill.

The Forest originated with Harris Whittemore, an industrialist and member of the State Forest and Park Commission. In 1921, Mr. Whittemore began buying parcels of land in the Naugatuck Valley, intending to donate them to the State. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to realize his dream, but after his death in 1928, his family continued to acquire land, and in 1931, almost 2,000 acres were donated in his memory.

Learn more, earn a patch: This is one of 32 letterbox hikes that will be sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Division of Forestry. When you have completed 5 of these sponsored letterbox hikes, you are eligible to earn a commemorative State Forest Centennial patch.

When you have completed five of these hikes, please contact us and let us know what sites you have visited, what your stamp looks like and how we may send you your patch

Not to bring up an old thread. No sticky for CT Parks and lots of threads on CT parks already. Know what would be an interesting idea for the State. Since NY is finishing up their 700+ trail. Wouldn't it be awesome if from the Airline trail to Storrs down to New London to New Haven up to Hartford there was a way to connect all these trails together.

What about the New England National Scenic Trail? It connects three separate trails into one major trail from the Long Island Sound in Connecticut to near the northern border of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. However, I was looking into hiking part of it a few years ago but I never got the chance so I do not known what it is like.
