Once upon a time, what is now Kennedy flats paid taxes to the city. Two 7 year abatements on property tax seems excessive to me. Downtown Danbury redevelopment has cost the taxpayers a fortune and can not succeed. The land Kennedy flats is on used to manufacture modem circuit boards. At one time, parts of Danbury just off main street had light industry.

Kennedy flats was marketed to the town as an upscale development for wealthy singles commuting to NYC via the nearby and awful rail spur to Norwalk. Instead it's section 8 housing. Kennedy park is the go to place or at least was, not certain if it moved, to hire illegal immigrants as day labor.

Since the mall opened tremendous quantities of wealth have been spent trying to keep downtown Danbury alive. It hasn't worked, walk down some of the side streets, deserted residential buildings or worse deserted factories.

Every few years, the wealthy of Danbury concoct yet another scheme to rip taxpayers off with a sure fire development of downtown. It would be better leveled imo. As to the mall, never go there myself, but it pays about 10% of our property tax, so it helps. Downtown redevelopment sucks all that and then some up. If the mall goes under when our governor's plan to put tolls on I84 becomes effective, the mall projects it will go under in less than 5 years. This will result in a huge loss of property tax, and another series of schemes to redevelop the mall.

Let downtown Danbury sink in the private sector, then let the private sector rebuild it organically. This will be of no real cost to taxpayers, and will eventually help the city.

The building size of schools in Danbury are great. Each school is very much a neighborhood school. The principals are terrific about going on tours of the schools. They are totally cool about visiting and interviewing and seeing if your child is a fit for a particular school. That's one thing we loved about Danbury. The school administrators get very close the kids, know them by a first name basis and welcome the parents input.

Kudos on publishing a picture showing the diversity of Danbury school children. As to school of distinction, maybe, whatever that means. Pablum is mostly created for minority parents, it helps them feel things aren't so bad.

There's a new Vietnamese restaurant on Mill Plain Road that's good. I've gotten the Vietnamese chicken sandwich the two times I've stopped in for take out, would try something more elaborate if I have time to sit down.

I love the way Mayor Mark is so supportive of local brides and grooms. Very cool, very hip, indeed.

Don't you love the pictures of the Danbury newlyweds on these pages.

Such great diversity. Danbury is hot!
