Saw something I had not realized the scope of the other day. I work in NYC, was almost to work having gotten on in Milford, felt sick turned around at Harlem, and was surprised at how full a rush hour Express train to Ct was, with many in business casual attire getting off at Greenwich, Stamford, and South Norwalk and Westport. Train made no stops between Harlem and Greenwich-so they were not on for Westchester County.

I suspect many of these are corps who may have once been in NYC, now in FFC or least having offices here.

It is nowhere near the CT quantity working in NYC, but still it was nice to see more than I expected going this way.

What were the ages?

A lot of people < 40 would prefer living in NYC to the suburbs these days.

We have a few in our office in Stamford. Mostly younger folks. We also have a sizable contingent from NJ, although they tend to be older.

Bob - I hope you are feeling better. Yes, the reverse commute from New York to Connecticut has been going on for decades now. At one time there was barely anyone on I-95 Northbound in Greenwich heading into Stamford but today there is significant congestion with more people coming in from New York. Also, more people want to live in the city today but work in the suburbs so you will see the reverse commuting. It is also happening in New Jersey, Westchester and Long Island as well. Jay

Having commuted by car from Westchester to various parts of FFC for almost a decade now I have noticed this too. One thing I never expected is I more and more see some cars with NJ plates on the morning roads in CT. Not a lot, but more than just one on my drive. Wow go through 3 states on one's daily commute! (But what awes me more is they have to sit on a toll bridge plus all the driving)

Bergen County is only about 25 miles from the Connecticut state line so I guess it should not be surprising to see New Jersey cars commuting to Connecticut. I know there are Connecticut residents that work in New Jersey. It is not all that far but still not a commute I would want to do, though I did do it many years ago. Jay

Ct-NJ or NJ-CT not doable by rail, generally, as the Grand Central-Penn shuffle makes it far worse.

It might only be 25 miles away, but the logistics are horrific. That's a nightmare commute. It's not a reverse commute since you're taking the same bridges everyone who is going into nyc has to take. Tappan zee(10 miles extra) is a mess and gw is impossible. 1 hour long wait to get across the gw bridge is normal at rush hour. Also, the toll is outrageous. You'll get hit with tolls in nj and then the bridge toll, then ny thruway toll if you take 95. To get on the Garden state will cost 2 bucks each way with ezpass. Then once you get over the bridge you can't touch the cross bronx so you hit more traffic on the hutch. It's jammed going north in the morning. And you can't connect to 95 properly if you don't take the gw to cross bronx so you're stuck on the hutch. 287 is jammed if you take the tappan zee. Real mess anyway you go. And you'll also hit traffic around stamford even going north at rush hour nowadays.
