So, as you all know, the CT Governor's race was quite close between Lamont and Stefanowski. However, I was just thinking how in addition to Stefanowski running as a conservative candidate, Griebel also ran, and he got something like 4-5% of the vote as well. Now, suppose that we took Griebel, who was a Republican candidate up until quite recent (this election, if I'm not mistaken), would Stefanowski had won? Did Griebel effectively act as a foil akin to Ralph Nader to Al Gore? If so, why do you think Griebel would have done such? Discuss!

I imagine Griebel attracted both Democrats and Republicans. He's a moderate and likely drew equally from both parties. Not sure why it matters, however. It's over. Lamont is the governor-elect.

I voted for Oz.
Do hope this will be a wake up call for the Republican Party that they need a more Moderate, Progressive, Libertarian, Left Leaning Candidate for 2022.

Though Stefanowski did have some moderate and libertarian policies. Do think he was a strong candidate though.

Lamont won by 40,000 votes. Oz got 54,000 votes. As Oz was really just a second conservative candidate (albeit a bit more of a moderate one) I think it's quite possible that 40,000 of the 54,000 Oz voters would have voted for Stefanowski.

Just moderate should be fine. These ultra conservative business men have not been working out for the Republicans the last 3 governor elections. Neither Foley nor Stefanowski had a clue about how to play the political game. If Mark Boughton ended up being the nominee or even perhaps David Stemerman, I believe Republicans could have flipped a few of those "light blue" towns to make up for the votes in New Haven, Hartford, Bridgeport, etc. But they'd have to deal w/ a super blue legislature so who knows what would happen.

Agree. Boughton probably would've retained more FFC/Litchfield towns especially.

The anti Trump hate brought out all the Democrats to vote. Simple as that. They thought a vote against Stefanowski was a vote against Trump. The cities elected Lamont just like they did Malloy. People will keep voting for you if you keep giving them free money. Democrat playbook every election. Wonder how many actual taxpayers voted for Lamont ?

OZ was a non factor in the end. He drew enough from Lamont and Stefanowski. I find it comical that he and his campaign were happy with the outcome. They like running and having no chance of winning the election.

A majority, obviously. Our cities aren’t that big
