I will be moving to the Westchester area for work and will be renting first before buying a house. We are a family of 4 with a 5 yr old, so schools are the #1 priority. Looking to rent a 2-3 Bedroom Apt/Townhome. Budget is 4-6K

Also, we are South Asian Muslims. We get along very well with all ethnicities and cultures but would be nice to be connected to ours as well. We really like New Canaan/Fairfield/Greenwich. Fairfield sounds the most appealing. How is the diversity in these towns particularly Fairfield?

The most diverse is actually Greenwich and the most expensive. I believe with your budget you can get something in Greenwich which would have the best commute.

You picked three nice towns with excellent schools although I am partial to Fairfield. I was born and raised in Stamford and wanted to move to Fairfield myself but ended up in Trumbull. I know both areas well.

Right on this site there is detailed information on the races/ancestry of each town.

Even though your three particular towns do not have large Muslim populations you would be close to cities that probably do. Something tells me Bridgeport has the most Muslims so Fairfield would indeed be a good choice for you. I googled "Mosques" and you can see it.

FYI: The traffic in Fairfield County is TERRIBLE. Bear that in mind when selecting a town. Which town is your job in?

Thanks for your inputs. I will look into the Greenwich area. What about the diversity in Fairfield? Does it have a decent south asian population? I can see Bridgeport and Stamford have good diversity but crappy schools.

My job is in Rye Brook, Westchester County and Spouse will be working remotely.

The eastern more affordable portion of Fairfield is diverse. The western part (Greenfield and Southport) near Westport is white and rich.
I'm also in Westchester not far from the Greenwich line near Wegmans. The commute isn't great but it's manageable.
Fairfield would be over an hour give or take during peak times. Longer on the PM side.

Best

Since your budget allows, and you have to commute to Westchester, you definitely want to zero in on Greenwich. Fairfield is great, as is New Canaan, but Fairfield will be a headache of a commute (1 hour, easily) and New Canaan is not racially or economically diverse like both Greenwich and Fairfield.

You should also consider towns and cities in Westchester.

Are you looking specifically for South Asian Muslims or South Asians in general. To my knowledge of the three towns you mention Greenwich would have the most of both but certainly the latter. And Rye Brook basically borders Greenwich so your commute wouldn't be bad at all you can probably either be on the Merritt a very short length or just take back roads. Would be much more of a commute if you were going from there to say White Plains, Tarrytown, Yonkers, New Rochelle, etc.

I would not look in Fairfield if your job is in Westchester. The commute would be horrible. I would strongly recommend you look west of Stamford to avoid traffic congestion from Fairfield to Stamford. That leaves Greenwich or Westchester itself. Greenwich is very expensive and so is Westchester. I’d suggest you post on the Westchester County forum for recommendations there, if you haven’t already. Jay

I live in Greenwich and am South Asian and there are very few of us here, an essentially none in other parts of FFC. Maybe Edgemont in Westchester would be good.
