Looks like the owner of the Yankee Pedlar Inn is making strides to get its development back on track. Will now be under the Hampton Inn brand instead of Best Western. Exciting news

I stayed at the Yankee Pedlar back in the early 80’s for a wedding. It was a beautiful old inn. I do hope it can be saved.

Will this magically change how terrible Torrington is?

I don’t think that Torrington is “terrible”. It’s a nice small mill town. Certainly it has some problems but it’s not terrible. It has many nice neighborhoods and the Warner Theater is a true treasure.

This was filmed there:

His other movie, House of the Devil, was filmed in CT too. Great movie.

Yes good call. I might be heading up to the Warner on Jan 5th. I figure that’s a safe direction to head in.
I had to forego the Oakdale Wallingford gig about a month ago as heading in that direction is just too risky these days.

Ah come on now. "Terrible" is too strong a word to describe Torrington. I never understood the hate the town gets and believe a lot of it is undeserved. Not that I would ever call it a "nice" place, but it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. There are a lot of sketchy people, drug use is bad but there are a lot of nice neighborhoods there and good hard working people live there. It has a lot of shopping and good places to eat too. Plus Northwest CT is the prettiest part of the whole state imo.

and it's OK even if it was terrible. Every state including faves like TN, TX and FL have really terrible places.

I remember when I lived and worked in West Hartford in the 1990's a couple of co workers called Torrington bland with bland people. To each his own I guess. It is just an average CT town with some nice scenic areas surrounding it in my eyes.
