My wife and I are moving to CT from MD and we're having a hard time deciding where to settle down. I'll be working a bit west of Southbury and my wife is hoping to stay with The Limited so she'll either work in Farmington or Meriden (ignoring Stamford for now but that's also a possibility). Waterbury would be ideal geographically... We're looking to rent for less than $1200. Is there anything central to Southbury and Meriden/Farmington worth looking into? Also looking to keep commutes less than 30min for both of us if possible. At lot to ask for I know...

I am not sure what you are looking for that rent but I would recommend Southington. It is about halfway between Farmington and Southbury and right next to Meriden. There are a number of rentals there within your price rnage and it is a nice community as well. Good luck, Jay

Thanks Jay and we'll check out Southington! I guess more info would have helped, I was up late last night... We're in our 20's, no kids (yet), looking for a temporary 2 br apartment until we decide to buy (probably for around 200K). We're used to city living (we're originally from Providence, RI) and we know there are some bad areas and good areas in every city. We just need to find we're the good is. We're not naive and we lock our home and cars every night, lol. We like living close to shopping and downtown areas, bot too close. If we do decide to look in Waterbury, what are the decent areas there? We're also considering Naugatuck, Meriden, maybe Bristol or Danbury. It's tough because I don't know yet where my wife is going to work. I just know I'll be working in Southbury. Thoughts anyone? Any advice would be helpful!

If you want a more urban location, then Waterbury may be best. Others here could probably give you information on good neighborhoods in Waterbury. Naugatuck and Bristol are other good options, but keep in mind that these are all small cities (including Waterbury) and will not be like Providence. Danbury would not be convenient to Farmington or Meriden, so unless there is a chance your wife will be working there, I would cross it off your list. Jay
