I have a job offer in White Plains (NY) and do not really want to live in NY because of the taxes. I'm looking into CT, and interested in small towns with a reasonable to commute to White Plains. Any ideas? Can't afford Greenwich & Stamford, so those are out of question already. Thanks.

I'd check out the small towns around Danbury. They are Bethel, Brookfield, Newtown and New Fairfield. They are about 45 minutes away from White Plains and considerbly more affordable than those towns.

CT is rough and the traffic is horrendous - It takes me 20-25 on a good day to commute from exit 7 to exit 3 in Greenwich - When there is no traffic its an 8 minute drive

Danbury to White Plains... I would say that more like an hour to an hour and a half commute...minimum

Try Norwalk - Your commute will still be around 40-45 minutes but rents are cheaper

Your best bet would be a shady area of Stamford (which is not bad)

You can also live further up the line (Bridgeport which is the most crime ridden but affordable city in Fairfield County - Its not so bad - The Black Rock area is up and coming)

if you don't mind taking the train you can commute farther

Default to White Plains

Western Danbury very affordable, only 45 minutes away. Bethel, 55 or so, Newtown a little more.
