Ctcoldplay's list is good, it depends on what kind of amenities you prefer but all of those towns have different feels.

It really depends on what kind of skillset/education you have. Some of the job markets are actually doing incredibly well, and some are doing very poorly.

We discovered Milford back in 2004 and love it.

The only "beach" town's I can think of are:

Milford, Madison and somewhat East Lyme.

The others are SHORE towns, but not "beach" towns.

I consider Old Saybrook a beach town. There are a lot of small homes and beach cottages there. Most shoreline towns have beach communities of some type so they could be considered beach towns IMHO. Jay

Depending on where you are considering working, will depend on where you want to look. Milford for example offers small town green with shops and resturants, there are multiple beach communities. It also is the first stop from New Haven to NYC on the Metro North line. There is other shopping along Route 1 which offers a shopping mall as well as more shopping, resturants and services into Orange and West Haven. West Haven also offers a wonderful beach front community, it also has a town green but not many shops around the green. You should check out both of these towns in order determine where you might want to focus. Other towns mentioned above are also excellent choices, but as I mentioned, it will depend on where you want to work. As for jobs in CT, you will find that the higher paying jobs are in Fairfield County, primarily Stamford, or North into Hartford. However, the closer you get to New York the higher the wages as well as higher cost of living, and Stamford is the biggest city between New York and New Haven. I hope this information helps.

The beaches in Connecticut are disappointing! We came here thinking the coast of New England was sandy and pristine, soon but realised that it was littered with seaweed, broken shells and brown water. Connecticut is very attractive in many instances but beacheß are not one of the strong selling points. We are off to the City of Palms soon, cannot wait to experience daily a more relaxed (and friendly) America!
