Trumbull also has a very good school system. If schools are important, that's another reason to put Trumbull at the top of your list.

Second the Trumbull idea too but wonder why can't you find something in Fairfield. There should be good deals in the 400-500K. The good news is that if you come home by 4:00 am, you won't have to pay commuter parking in Fairfield! That saves a decent amount a year. Even if you pick Trumbull, try to drive to Fairfield. Driving from either town during off peak is not that bad either.

Good luck with your choice

Its between Trumbull and Milford. I think I will end up driving to Greenwich since my schedule is from 10PM to 7AM. I love Fairfield, but you get more bang for the buck in Trumbull or Milford, especially Milford, without risking personal safety .

In the last year I've been doing extensive research on the school systems in the Milford/Trumbull/Fairfield areas... Milford is really just middle of the road, IMHO, based on parents with children in some of the schools and the online research I've done. Trumbull, on the other hand, excels, and most of the schools are top rated, and the parents I've spoken to rave about them. The taxes are quite higher than Milford, however, and it depends on what kind of lifestyle you are looking for. Trumbull is more rural, not many commercial buildings, beautiful parks, two town pools - Milford is really a city of sorts, beautiful town green, lots of shopping conveniences. They're still very nice towns.

I understand your frustration with the housing sitch in Fairfield.... um, no, there is nothing for a family of four for under $500,000 that doesn't need major renovations or an extension on the square footage. Fairfield will work in that price range if you have a very leisurely pace to house hunt. It has taken my family nine months of looking in Fairfield to find the perfect house for us under $540k with enough space and move-in condition. We we foolish enough to think that $500k was more than enough - which in Trumbull or Milford, it is.

Happy hunting! Make sure you spend some weekends with your family driving around the towns - we had a blast doing that.

Fairfield currently has 118 3/2 homes on the market under 500k.

Smaller homes are in now for many reasons, including people are going green and don't want the expense of heating/cooling large homes.

You think those smaller homes on the market didn't have growing families living in them through the years?

Smaller home means less house to clean!

I agree Milford is a small city with a wide range of housing options. Trumbull is definitely more upscale. Only you can decide which suits you better. Jay
