After going through three different blu-ray players, all from different manufacturers (Samsung, Sharp, Insignia), I'm getting a bit tired of the ongoing issues with the time they take to load a disc, freezing and locking up, not allowing me to re-start a video from where I may have previously stopped it, noisy mechanicals, etc. Not one, even with all available firmware updates, was able to play Avatar.

Does anyone know if there is a decent Wi-Fi ready blu-ray player out there that works consistently well all of the time?

Interesting. That's what a guy at Best Buy said.

Plays Blue rays and you have a video game system with it. Not only that but it takes USB flash drives so you can play media right from your computer. You can stream movies from netflix right off it too i believe. Not sure about that though but i cant see why you couldnt.

I 2nd the Playstation 3 comment. Get one of the old 60 GB launch models and you're good to go, complete with a full array of card readers and upgradable storage. It's even 3D ready. And yes, it streams NFLX, you have access to the PSN network, has a built in web browser, etc. It really is an all-encompassing media device.

BTW, disc loading times will always be an issue no matter what player you select. It has to do with the read speed restrictions on BD discs themselves.

Playstation 3 is a great device and is a good option if you don't mind pulling out a little more $$ and higher energy usage. But in the end, you get a lot more than a BR player, so it's definately worth considering.

I'm surprised you've had so much trouble with 3 different BR players from different brands. I'm a fan of the Samsung wifi models, but looks like you've already had badluck with them.

If you go with PS3, please do post back here how it worked out for you.

Since the Sony PS3 is a great BR movie player, maybe a Sony branded BR player might be a cheaper option if you don't need the game player?

Then again, maybe the quality control for PS3 is better than a plain BR player.

True story:
During one trip to Asia, my wife and I were shopping for a BR player. Therre were hundreds of players, some branded, most not. So I ask the guy, "Do you have a Sony?".

He says: "Sure " .... and removes the generic logo on the machine I was looking at and tacks on a "Sony" label ... "Here you go.."

The price was too good. So we bought it.

We still have that player and it still works great, playing all sorts of DVDs, CDs and other media.

I have a LG BD370 player and have been happy with. Has network connection for streaming netflix, decent upconvert on DVD's. No built in wireless though.

Bluray players are not the in-thing anymore. You should be getting either the Dune HD Max or the Popcorn Hour C200 hybrid players. These are the only players you should be getting for your home and nothing else. Learn more of these hybrid players by comparing them on video here - http://www.hdquick.com/how-to-buy/play-hd-files-on-tv-pc/. That is the future of home entertainment.
