I have 2 phones. One phone is a new cordless and the other is an old corded one. Both phones have no static when they are plugged directly into the phone line. However, when the old corded one is connected via the fax machine, there is static. I have not tested to see if the newer cordless phone also has static when connected to the fax. So basically, here's how it goes:
No Static:
Phone Line ----> Old Corded Phone
Static:
Phone Line -----> Fax Machine -----> Old Corded Phone
Is there a way for me to get rid of the static when the phone is connected via the fax machine?
Probably not. You might try flipping the power plug to the fax machine if the socket isn't polarized so you can't. Otherwise, something in your fax machine is messed up.
Replace the phone wires in both. If the problem still exists then there is a problem in the fax passthru. Best thing to do is get a line splitter and plug all your devices into it.
Might try one of the phone line filters that come with DSL internet. Most people who used ATT DSL likely have several extras.
