Is the Fire free to use, like a Kindle? You just use your wi-fi (assuming you don't have a data cap). Does the Fire use 3G or 4G, like some of the Kindles?
You can get a Fire with our without 3G, just like an iPad. If you get one without 3G then you just use it with wifi and there are no extra costs.
I have had my Kindle Touch with Wi-Fi since 10/2011 and love it! Never any problems, and it has over 800 kindle books on it, the vast majority were freebies[with 4-5 star reviews].
Today, I bought a Paperwhite because I just moved and don't have a light near my favorite chair to read in, my recliner, and that cannot be resolved. I am looking forward to several years of reading on my lighted Kindle.
I also have a Kindle Fire for games, internet, ect, but I wouldn't think of reading a book on that backlit screen! I love E-ink!
