Freecycle is a wonderful thing! My home needed carpet so badly so I posted an ad for carpet and received a large amount of beautiful carpet & padding in excellent condition!! I was thrilled!!

There is also a Habitat For Humanity in Cookeville. I haven't been there but I've heard that they have a lot of construction & home items donated like: carpet, wood, sheetrock, windows, paint, furniture, etc... Perhaps you could check them out.

I forgot to mention: If you're needing carpet or flooring please do not think that Stovers is the cheapest! I got a price quote from Stovers and Bowman's Discount Carpet, located on Willow. Bowman's beat Stovers price, quality, cleanliness, & service HANDS DOWN!!

Once anyone takes a look at Stover's carpet will know exactly what I mean. They allow dirt, black dust, and grease to get on their carpet and sell it for top of the line prices.

Excellent suggestion!!! I don't know why I didn't think of it myself.

The Putnam County Habitat for Humanity ReStore is located at 711 E. 15th Street in Cookeville. Here's their web site:

Smile Kitchen cabinets

[quote=Charlette;593159

Charlotte,

As they have said, do not rule out Lowe's if you find a set on display, they may give you a good deal.

Also, we have a Habitat for Humanity store here in Cookeville. They have a lot of things. Furniture, kitchen cabinets, sinks for the kitchen and bath, lighting fixtures, all kinds of things except clothes.

They run by donations, so they have different things at different times. It is worth checking out when you get ready to do a project to see what they have.

I have seen washers, dryers, stoves, fridges etc....

I hope this helps.

I have been trying to locate a freecycle here in Cookeville, and so far have been unable to find/locate one. Could you please post the link for me.

We just purchased a home that is in pretty bad shape and needs lots of work done to it, so I am hoping to find some things to help us out.

Thank You,

Tnbarbsmom

tnbarbsmom, did you mean a storefront location? Freecycle is just a network of people that either have items or need items that are free. jenicanoelle posted the link to freecycle. You have to select the group/location you want and then join it to see any posts. I haven't joined Cookeville's yet, but do belong to a group in FL. We donate some items to the local Habitat, but they don't take clothing so it goes to a Hospice store. My clothing shrinks just hanging in the closet.

oh gosh I can't stand their commercials. Thankfully, the good people in Cookeville are spared those Hall's Salvage ads.

But they do have Stover's which is similar to Hall's Salvage. Stover's also has a location in Knoxville on Asheville Hwy. The original is on West Broad just a few blocks west of downtown Cookeville.
