For furniture, depending on what you want, I love MegaTrends (an utter hole-in-the-wall) for upholstered furniture - couches, chairs, loveseats, ottomans, etc - cheap and very very well made. Way way way way (did I mention way) better than Eagle. I had a sectional made at Eagle that I can't wait to replace with one from MegaTrends - my frame broke within a few months, fabric is tearing in a couple spots, just not well made, IMO. Warning: it's as country as can be and looks pretty iffy, but they build some sound and beautiful furniture - they have done a couch, 2 queen annes and an oversized chair for me over the years - recovered the couch and big chair at least once - wonderful work, and did I mention cheap?! For cabinetry - armoires, etc, I would probably get the guy that built my cabinets to give me a quote.
Amber, where is MegaTrends? I've never heard of them, but it sounds wonderful.

It also made me think of another local furniture manufacturer, Cherry Creek Furniture. They hand make furniture using cherry and walnut so the stuff is super sturdy and gorgeous. I have friends in Oak Ridge who drove to Cookeville to have their entire bedroom suite made out of cherry.

It really is a cool store! And a lot of fun to just browse. And seriously, the cafe is awesome. I don't drink coffee, but their array of Italian pastries is incredible. It's a fun way to kill some time in downtown Cookeville.

First of all, I will second the vote on Dolce Cafe - yummers!! And super duper cute!

Second, MegaTrends is located behind Cosmopolitian Bar on Shipley Rd (across from Racket Master off Willow). No sign or anything. Looks like a condemned building, haha. First time I went, I almost didn't get out of my car. Glad I did. They also recover furniture as well.

Thank you everyone for you information and guidance. We're coming out to Cookeville next week for 10 days and we wanted to look around for stuff to furnish the new home. (We're giving a lot of our old stuff away before we move from (ugh) California.) My wife retires Oct 1 and the house goes on the market. As soon as it sells, we a Cookeville bound and can't wait. We appreciate ALL of the information on this forum. It has been extremely helpful.

How wonderful that you'll be able to spend so much time in Cookeville! Be warned, however, the weather right now is BRUTAL. Very hot, very muggy. You're definitely coming at one of the worst times of the year to enjoy the beautiful outdoors around Cookeville. But if you can get beyond the weather, I hope you'll love the area.

And don't forget to ask for suggestions on where to eat!

Another vote for Appliance Mart. And DT Mccalls has an upstairs that most people don't know about. You gotta ask.... They have (or had) headboards up there very cheap, as an example. I'd stay away from the big box stores and shop the local stores. PLEASE visit Stovers. Make sure you have a couple of hours at least to kill there. JM2C
