70 Years Since the Holocaust

Very soon there will be a 70 year observance to remember the Holocaust. Those who were adults who tasted of the prison camps and yet survived are basically all gone now. Those who had been children and teenagers are in their 70's and up.
A recent large study of over 53,000 people indicates that only a little more than half remember or acknowledge the historic horror known as the Holocaust.
In the 1930's-1940's over 6 million Jews were gathered and annihilated under orders of Hitler and his Nazi party. Aside from those 6 million Jews were at least 5 million others who were put to death: Black people, Catholic priests, homosexuals, twins, Roma (Gypsies from Romania), the mentally retarded, and Christians who would not go along with the Nazi agenda (as well as those in the Underground Resistance). They were tortured, starved, experimented on, and put to death.
This means at least 11 million people were annihilated through the Third Reich.
Why is this important? Because it could happen again. Indications are that a Fourth Reich is probable.
We must not be blind, nor silent, on the subject.
Let's remember the Holocaust, and tell our children.

Earlier this evening CNN had televised a one hour special called "Victims Of Auschwitz." I missed the show, hopefully they will repeat it sometime this weekend. Wolf Blitzer hosted it.

My friend and I met a survivor when our (now 23 year old) kids were toddlers. We met at a Burger King where he brought his grandchild. As the kids were playing, we were chatting with him and I noticed the tattoo on his arm and acknowledged it. He opened right up and told us a harrowing story of the holocaust.

He was taken for work, his parents were not, his sister was also chosen for work, but refused to be separated from her baby, so they were taken away never to be seen again. Toward the last days of the war, he and some other prisoners were taken from the camp and made to walk for miles through the woods. The ones who were too weak and fell, were shot right then and there.

When the American planes were heard overhead, the guards scattered in the woods leaving their prisoners behind. When the guards didn't return, they found a family who let them hide in their barn somewhere and was hiding in a side room when they came back looking for them, poking their bayonets in the bales of hay. He was liberated by the Americans a few days later, and some of the soldiers cried when they saw their emaciated bodies. He said he was able to get a job with the U.S. navy as a cook, and then became an American citizen.

His survival story brought me and my friend to tears, not only because of his ordeal, but because he was such an amazingly positive person, overflowing with gratitude and love of this country. We saw him a few times after that, and he always had a smile on his face!

Yes, I've heard that Holocaust deniers are actually on the increase!
As far as the 4th Reich goes, I'll explain a little. Our family are history buffs. Through this we learned about the 1st and 2nd Reich activities in times years ago, as well as the 3rd Reich in Germany. There are indications as you watch the news carefully (not just one paper or channel, but various sources) that hints loudly at another uprising against people of color. This means not only Jewish people, but Black people, Latino...anything not obviously "Aryan" (light skinned: whether Caucasian technically, or light-skinned far-East, etc.).
When we pick up on something "radical" we weigh it awhile. We look at where the news comes from (ie: if they are really into aliens, we back off and look for something with their feet closer to earth), and see who else is saying it. Is it in old books previously published? Is it happening around us? (Current, local news.)
IE: The Rise of the KKK is a real threat to be aware of. The KKK doing "advertising" in TN, TX, NY and other states...putting flyers on driveways like old-fashioned newspaper boys. Their flyers made it plain they weren't happy with the message like its hotline message: "If it aint white, it aint right".

That's just a couple of instances. We do not want to be "fear mongers", but aware so we can watch and pray.
In the meanwhile, I hope you all will be able to view observances of the 70 years. There are some good online articles with plethora pictures.
