NOW I know why I have such mental issues these days. I've been surrounded by kitties since very young.

I guess some things in life are worth the risk, including fluffy.

Studies find link between cat ownership and schizophrenia - WTOP

They’re cute, they’re cuddly and they’re the reigning stars of YouTube, but cats are also carriers of a dangerous parasite.

Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) has been known to cause illness, developmental disorders and even death. And now, researchers have greater evidence to link the cat-carried parasite to mental disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

A recent study published in Schizophrenia Research examined previous studies and found that childhood cat ownership may be a risk for schizophrenia later in life. A second study, published in the journal Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, found that an individual infected with T. gondii was almost twice as likely to develop schizophrenia, CBS News reports.

I do not believe this study because of a fatal flaw.

People do not own cats.

Cats own people.

Toxoplasmosis has been implicated in more than just schizophrenia. It's why I feel so strongly about covering children's sandboxes and not allowing domestic cats to roam. Raised bed gardens should also be cleaned of any cat feces each spring before planting, and always, always use garden gloves.

Given what we know now.........and I think of all those years when it was the family practice to dump the kitty litter in the compost heap.

It has been scientifically proven that people who hate cats share the same genetic traits as rodents.
