Very simple. He is saying we need to start a cultural change by instilling respect and the proper mindset into kids.

How do you get race out of that?

The way forward is for the federal government to implement a long term plan - say 10/15 years - in which guns can be turned in - for cash. New federal rules allowing guns only with strict tests should be introduced. Tax ammo at a high rates (the tax can go to help victims of gun violence). Strict penalties for illegal guns.
Those who support liberal gun laws have to ask themselves - why is a college shooting like this big news? It's because it's beyond what is accepted as a reasonable norm. Yet, it is the proliferation of guns that allows that. There's clearly a disconnect.

And in 15-20 years, a corrupt and evil government has the perfect way to control their population, and there will be nobody to stop them.

There's a disconnect, alright. By folks that think making guns MORE illegal than illegal, and ignoring the true cause of these shootings.

Since this has never worked for drugs, why would it work for guns?

But people would still have access to paper clips … beer bottles … kitchen knives … pointed sticks … harsh language ...

Given the types of arguments we hear out here, I can't blame you for being unsure whether it was sarcasm or not.

Reformulation in a more obvious way : if only all guns were made illegal, it would be impossible to kill/shoot people. What are we waiting for ? Let America be like France where everyone law abiding is unarmed, and the criminals are better armed than the cops.

If we want to ban something to save lives, why not ban private cars?

Over 30,000 people are killed in automobile accidents in the US each year.

If we limited people to riding in buses and on trains, I'd bet it would drop to probably 500 or less.

Banning cars would be extremely effective, because it's incredibly hard to hide a car your driving compared to drugs or guns.

Would you support banning private cars?
