How do you or I know it was a spilled drink? I wasn’t going to get down and sniff it. When I sat down it was a shock. I saw several old timers getting off the plane in wheelchairs. Maybe their diapers soaked Through who knows? I wouldn’t have continued the fight and made more of a issue of it. If I had diarrhea all over me.
I don't buy that. Nobody could force me to sit in someone's mess. Could they force you?
The airlines can have you arrested if you don't comply with whatever they tell you to do. Once the plane lands, police will escort you off the plane and put you in handcuffs. This is life post 911. Yes, they absolutely can force passengers to do almost anything. They've even beat up and dragged people off of airplanes when they did not comply.
BUT, that was the last flight out that night and he had to be at a meeting the next morning.
He should have not boarded the flight and included the fact that he missed his meeting for work on account of their negligence in his lawsuit (planes have problems all the time and the situation was a very valid reason for him to under no circumstances re-board with his seat in that condition). That's what I probably would have done; no way I could stomach willingly doing that, unless I was forced to. And I agree, they couldn't force him into the seat. He could have not re-boarded or they could have forced him off the plane if he didn't sit down. But they couldn't force him into the seat--that really would have been a fantastically easy case to win, I would imagine.
I hope he sues them for everything the company's worth and that it somehow makes them go out of business. I had an issue with Delta when I called prior to my flight to check the measurement limit on your allowed carry-on item. When I brought my luggage up, which was within the limits, they questioned it. Said it must fit into a slot (I'm sure anyone who's flown before have seen them; not sure what to call it). I told them that that wasn't what I was told, but I would try it. Turned out it didn't, so what I did since I had my partner there who wasn't going with me (had to fly from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City for work and he was going to drop me off and pick me up at the airport), I took out some things and gave it to him to take back. Then I put the luggage back into the slot--which fit.
Now I should be able to board the plane, right? Wrong! Not with Delta! They refused to let me go on with the luggage. I did need some things in it so I couldn't go. I had never been so ticked off in my life. To my dying day I would never, ever fly on that airline even if their flights were like $50 dollars and the next one I could get was over $400 one way. Well, I hate flying now anyway so I won't fly until I absolutely have to. But it will NEVER be Delta. And I tell everyone I have the opportunity how horrible they treated me. Gave me the wrong information and then when I did conform to their standards, still wouldn't live up to their word.
Worst. Company. Ever. I hope so much that one day I'll see that they don't exist anymore! That will be a very happy day for me! : )

I can't believe I even have to explain this.
Yep. And even if they don't arrest you, if you don't do whatever unreasonable thing they demand, you lose your seat without a refund, and so does your bag.
