20/20 hindsight and all that...but why would she ever open the door to let him in? Seems like, to me, if the guy is beating on the glass, gather the kids and stand by the door to make a fast exit. I would've never opened the door to him.
But not only does she open the door to him, then she pushes him out...but somehow by the time the police show up...he's IN the room again.

She thought, fairly reasonably, that it was her husband returning. Not checking through a peephole or with the chain/slide latch on was stupid, but she might have been just a little rattled...

Well...that seems to be the FIRST time. Then, it says he was beating on the window, and she was afraid he would break the glass...so she let him in. And she pushed him out.
