But it's still interesting to ponder how places that rely on packing in crowds will operate in the future.

Thanks for coming back and explaining - few do that!! I respect that.

I suspect that, in time, we're going to look back on Covid-19 as possibly being the biggest hoax (even if initially unintentional) ever perpetrated on the world and as to how so many millions of gullible, insecure people fell for it ...hook, line and sinker.

The virus is real ...it's as real as other viruses and non-viruses that result in the loss of thousands of lives worldwide every year. The 'hoax' is in the fear created from this particular virus and how SO many people have yielded so easily to submission by authority where, in many cases, no particular threat of contracting the virus is even imminent. When I go to my local supermarket, for instance, we are bound by social distancing while at the checkout lane (and may even get reprimanded by the cashier if we should get too close to the person in front) while having passed within inches of everyone moments before while shopping in the aisles. It's actually rather embarrassing to see people acting out this manufactured panic.

What many are going through presently is just plain ludicrous and has gone beyond 'the need to protect people'. Paranoia has become worse than the virus. 'We are doomed' is the new catch-cry of many since, they say, life will never be the same as it was just 3 months ago. The truth is that a huge majority of people would have come out of this 'crisis' totally unscathed had life continued on as normal. Perhaps 'hoax' is not the appropriate word to use; however, our governments have sure as heck found out for future reference, if need be, just how easy it is to pull the strings of the general public simply by "shouting fire in a crowded theater" . . .

Disney's business model is based on packing as many people as possible into a relatively confined space and then milking them for every penny they've got. In an era of social distancing, this is going to be a very tough sell. Other close-quarter businesses, like major-league sports, airlines, movie theaters, cruises, etc., are going to face the same problem.

Operationally, it's really not that hard for Disney to work this out. Limit admissions to, say, 10 percent of the official capacity of the park; then have everyone stand 6 feet apart in the lines (which would include only using every other row of the holding pens). For the people able to gain admission, it would be a fantastic experience: ride as many rides as you want, all day long, with little to no waiting, ever. The problem, of course, is that I can't even begin to comprehend how Disney could make money while operating at only 10 percent of capacity.

Part of the problem the seasonal parks like Cedar Point have is they're looking at losing 30-40% of their open dates for 2020 already and with so much uncertainty about how many days they get, it makes the logistics of everything from hiring employees to getting the landscaping ready for prime time to how many giant stuffed teddy bears to order quite difficult. If they think they aren't going to get an all-clear until July 15, that's also a lot fewer days to absorb the fixed costs associated with opening

This would be a good time to perform upgrades to the park, I'm so sick of visiting Disney for the last 30+ years only the food stalls and shops received the most changes while the rides are basically the same with just some new paint and only about 10% of the rides are new additions. I'm sick of going each year seeing the same rides.

Financial analyst says Disney World could open by June 1st. Disney is accepting reservations for June 1st.

Disney World Could Open By June, Says One Analyst—and the Company Can Turn a Profit

Everybody we talk to has a very different impression of when this crisis will end. Obviously, nobody knows. We’re assuming the parks will open on June 1 . I’m talking about the domestic parks—I think Shanghai will open earlier, and perhaps Hong Kong opens later. It’s largely based on a couple of things—when the lockdown and the social distancing might become less stringent. It’s also the date that Disney is accepting reservations. If you call up and you want to book a hotel at Disney World, that’s the first date you can book—June 1.
Disney is putting in social distance markers at their security checks in Shanghai Disney Resort.

Its not the virus that scares me, its the economic impacts and the domino effect this will have, do you have any idea how many other companies and industries rely on theme parks being open?!

Just a couple large industries going under would be enough to devastate an entire region, and that will naturally impact other industries and regions as well.

Why do you go every year? Isn't there anything else in the US or world that you'd like to see? (Maybe you are retired and vacation 52 weeks a year?)

I’m a fan of Disney. I think my fondness for the company stems from childhood and some sentimental memories. What they have created and how they maintain it is absolutely amazing. The logistics alone are stunning. It’s pure fantasy. I’m not naive; I realize the company is in it to make profits. I’m sure many critics are correct about the commercialism, exploitation of workers, pricing, etc. But the prospect of these parks no longer existing, to me, would be a very sad occurrence. For a kid, it really is a dream come true.

You really think there haven't been significant changes in 30 years? Granted, Magic Kingdom hasn't changed a lot, but that's because that park focuses on the classics. People don't want those to change. They've swapped out a few rides (especially in Tomorrowland), but if you try to take out the teacups or Small World, people will riot. EPCOT is currently undergoing a major transformation (though apparently construction has been delayed due to CV19). They're going to be adding the Guardians for the Galaxy attraction as well as expanding England and France for their own rides. Animal Kingdom is the newest park (new within your 30 years), and itself has undergone a very recent expansion with the addition of Pandora. Hollywood Studios has also been expanded with Toy Story Land and the newest Galaxy's Edge. And then there's the complete and total redesign of Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney).
